    Hi,
I've been having loads of problems with the nikkai usb to serial from Maplins.
Tried many drivers, including the latest online, I have not tried the ones posted here - this is my first post so I can d/l and try.

The release notes are as follows:

    Release Notes:
    ---------------
    PL2303 Driver Installer v1.0.3.11
    Changes from Installer v1.0.2.5:
. Fixed problem when running installer in Windows Server 2003.
. No driver change from previous installer.
    Windows 98/ME Driver: v2.0.0.19
    Windows 2k/XP/Server2003: v2.0.5.111
    Windows Vista/Server2008: 3.3.3.114
    Installer & Build date: 1.0.3.11_20090410

I have tried all the above on XP and Vista machines, no luck.

I've tried all the drivers listed here and other places, no luck still getting the same error message 'waiting for response..'
I found my friend had an old laptop with a serial port and XP so I tried using that, at first looked more promising as the software was not flicking through ports it just found port 1.
      Still no luck!!!
I'm sending my box back today after phoning the retailer and explaining my 2 days worth of messing around, hope it is the box and not me - i've tried everything!

I've had the misfortune to buy one of these stupid things from Maplin, a google search brought me here. 1st post just to download the driver, fingers crossed! Good forum though, I'll be back.

Finally, after a morning of frustration, I've got my serial to USB connection working and have got my terminal window connected to my Beagle board.

Thanks for the driver, it was this, or the lack of it, that was the problem.

Got the replacement box this morning and it updated with the drivers absolutely no problem.
It was a port fault on the original box!

I used Vista with maplins usb to serial cable and had driver version 3.2.

              Worked first time.

                Drivers for Maplin USB/rs232

Interesting posts, hope that at least one of the drivers posted here helps me. Been struggling all day to get my Maplin cable to work with vista. Worked first time on an Xp machine but no joy at all with laptop running vista

I have also bought a Nikkai USB to serial converter and the disk does not seem to have the drivers on.

I'm not the best with computers and was wondering if somebody could tell me which is the best drivers to use.

My computer has windows XP on, so I am not sure if this will make any difference.

                  Any help would be great,

                  Johnnie

                    *************************************
give this a try mate use the driver file for your computer o/s system
                    *************************************************
these are driver files for a [usb to serial convertor]
for both XP and VISTA computer o/s systems
this is to enable you to use a [ laptop without a 9 pin com port] . to use a null modem cable to programme your receiver.
it says plug and play on these devices, they dont and you need a driver, so if your device came without a driver disc use this
                    it works 100%.
[1] open and run the driver file with the device unplugged
[2] it might ask you to uninstall old drivers [say yes]
[3] re-start your pc after installed.
[4] connect your usb to serial device.
[5] check in the device manager settings
[ prolific usb to serial com port.-com [1].

I'm having similar problems. I'll try this.
                        Thanks.

EDIT: Once I had fiddled with the Com Port properties in Vista's Device Manager, it worked instantly!

Bizarre. It worked once and then refused to work since.
I've tried installing the various drivers but to no avail.
