Really getting annoyed at UK companies using call centres in other countries (BT)

    I agree with Janobi, I've had no bad experiences with call centres based outside the UK, and I deal with them a lot, not just in India.

      press 1 to be cut for no reason at all...

      press 2 to to be given a list of 30 more options........

      press 3 to leave a message and no will get back to you .......

      press 4 if wish to stay connected but no will speak to you for atleast an hour..........

        What the companies are doing is maximising profits and putting very little back.

        If every company does this, once all the money is bleed dry there will be nothing left.

          You can not blame our Govt, these companies are nationalised, all connected with share holders, you make profit the share goes up???????..

          If it gets even cheaper to move call centre to Africa the fat cats will do that simple.

          Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

            tottally agree gary i recently changed my car insurance company from elephant. When customer services asked me why i moved when they provided the cheapest quote i told them they were cheaper for a reason- indian call centres.

              I try to use companys with uk call centres I use plusnet for
              phone and broadband uk based call centre ,plusnet is part of BT
              My electic and gas both have uk based call centres I have changed my supplies
              when I have had problems with call India
              If more people changed to uk based call centre companys the others would soon change.

                i too feel that uk companies have uk contact centres. mind you i hae been asked on several occasions to "speak english", which i personally find offensive. i have as much difficulty understanding certain english twangs and welsh and irish accents but i never insult them.

                  I think where the Call Centre is based depends on the type of answers you want. If it's UK you'd better hope it's nothing technical as the wages are so bad they employ some pretty poor quality individuals. If it's a conversation you're after forget the oversees ones as they appear to read from a script and stick to it rigidly.

                    Out sourcing is THE thing now. Been with two internet companies who direct you to some Indian guy who always seems to have the patience of Job.
                    However, it does nothing for employment at home considering the money that they're taking.

                        I think companies should have to mention if they use overseas call centres in advertising (i.e. at the bottom of the screen or something) as it is clearly a problem for a lot of people and I know personally if I knew before hand I would most likely not sign up to the service unless it was the only option out there.

                        For anyone to say its not a problem i think they have not had many dealings with these call centres. I dont have the language barrier issue 9 times out of 10 as I speak slowly and clearly and very rarely have difficulty understanding them. My issue is that there training is rubbish, they have no idea about the product they are selling and to say that they do is funny to say the least when they dont even know what a freeview receiver is.

                        And practically all these companies are doing is slave labour, okay it gives them a job and so on but its disgraceful the amount they are paid, if its unacceptable here in Britain then its a disgrace that a British company is doing it.

                          Money makes the world go around. As as these are profit driven organisations, then they will produce stuff where it is the cheapest.

                          I dont see anyone complaining about Apple using foxxcon to produce stuff. Or people complaining about steel being made in India.

                          The problem with the indian call centres is the fact that they use screens and scripts. They are very rigid in the information they have, and what they follow. Therefore anytime you ask something they aint covered, then they are stumped.

                          I agree that Raj and co get paid disgraceful wages, but the wages are pretty high for that country. Its supply and demand sadly. Companies have always moved where it is cheapest for them. No-one complained when the Japanese were moving companies here and creating jobs, when the US was creating car factories for the UK as labour costs were cheap.

                          Now that companies are moving the other way, we the British public feel its just not cricket and complain. Brave new world anyone?

                            I dont think it is right any company doing it, from any country, when the staff are going to be dealing with the customers.

                            Fair enough producing products in another country may work out cheaper due to raw material or whatever fine, but the end of the day have customer support in there country.

                            Second of all BT make plenty of money from the UK they should be willing to take a small hit for there loyal customers. Instead they couldnt care less about there customers and would rather save a bob or two.

                              As said above some companies are bringing their call centres back to the UK. One recently based it?s call centre in Burnley. Reason given was it?s cheaper than abroad. Now that?s saying something.

                                well so they should its by time they all took a leaf out that book and remember where there market is and start listening to there customers needs for a better UK service
