As the title suggests i am after some feedback on how much board kids are paying. My stepdaughter is 23, she has 2 jobs, working in subway & a local boozer. I can imagine she is not exacly loaded, but somehow she has enough cash to have a i phone on contract, and be able to go out and get so drunk she cannot remember anything. She also occasionally mentions going to the Casino until 5am in the morning. Right now she pays ?30 a week board to her mum, which is all spent towards the food bill. On the basis thats she does ~~~~ all around the house, apart from make it a mess ( last week she was so pissed she threw up in the empty bath !! ) I think she has it way to cushy, and she will never leave home unless she meets a loaded fella who can put up with her loudmouth, and drunken ways. So can anyone tell me how much their kids are paying ?? Its about time she started paying towards the council tax and energy bills etc. If she wants to treat my house like a Hotel she can pay Hotel prices, especially if she continues having a shower for over half a hour !!
How much board do kids pay nowadays ?

It's a tricky one especially as she's not your Daughter. I'd look at the local prices in letting agents for rent a room. Leave a few of the flyers lying around and discuss it with your partner. Trade off money for helping around the house. If this fails you'll soon find out who your partner loves the most. Personally ?50 per week would get my vote. -

i pay 30-40 a week where i can afford it as i have the baby half the week and need to make sure he has what he needs. though i also help out with housework and cooking dinners etc.
id deffo say do a rotation with dishes etc so she is helping out more and has a responsibility around the house. a little help goes a long way and she will quickly realise what hard work it takes to run a house and she will start respecting you more (after a few arguments, slagging matches and her digging her heels first though that is
)
god i feel really old and cynical towards the young, and im two years younger than her!

I get the general impression that we are being taken for a mug by my stepdaughter, judging by whats been said so far ? Is it that only those people who actually help to make a difference at their house are bothering to post ? Are all those who are just like my stepdaughter too ashamed to say how little they pay and how little they do around the house ? To be 100% honest with you, its not the amount of money she pays that is getting at me, its the fact that she just has no respect for other people and their belongings. The only job she used to do was drying and putting the dishes away after they have been washed, she used to crack and chip so many of them in the process. My wife was always finding damaged crockery ! This job was taken away from her when we had the new kitchen fitted with a intergrated dishwasher.Comment

i left home 15 years ago and i was paying ?50 a week then,also paying for full sky package (well i wanted it so i paid for it),taking parents out when i felt like it.thought that was what you were supposed to do.
i was never told how much to pay i just decided that the more i earned the more i should contribute (roughly worked out a fifth of what i would take home)Comment

I was paying ?25 a week 28 years ago, take home was ?50 a week, I reckoned that was steep and yet my stepdad wanted to up it to ?35 a week. My daughter has just turned 18, finishes college soon. Never had EMA and the family allowance we give directly to her; that runs out end of August. We were going to charge her maybe ?15-?20 a week when she eventually gets a job, but that looks too low for nowadays and given the replies on here.
Maybe as Paul says 20% of take home pay?Comment
