I've never paid rent to my parents, though I pay ?70.30/week somewhere else - soon to be ?68/week + bills

My Mum gives me money sometimes. I reluctantly accept when she says jokingly "Dont worry. Ill take it off you when you're earning"

We tried that for a few weeks ... the most she ever earned was ?24.20p ... I asked who gave her the 20p, she said ALL of them !!

If its any consolation, our kids pay us ~~~~ all for living with us.
When we asked them for contributions towards the house keeping,food, bills & council tax, they said its "your duty" as parents to look after us.

?30 , i would bite her hand off,i get ~~~~ all and the hand out at weekends till they get paid at the end of the month never seems to happen!!but am glad they still wana be at home because i would miss them if they went!!

My lads on an apprenticeship he likes it, yet they pay him best part of ?700 a month !! Good money for an 18yrs but he is paying for a ?60 bus pass plus block driving lessons.... He gets us the occasional takeaway but not much more...but then again I want him to appreciate the job then he does well in that he progresses etc and not make him feel it's not worth doing because there is nothing else out there! M

If they were working and educating themselves for a career i wouldnt accept anyhting from them. If they were just working and using the house as a bed and breakfast and getting pished up all the time i would suggest to them that they pay me for the room or i will gladly rent it out to a student and they can go find somewhere else.

maybe you should ask your wife/partner and her mother what she thinks 1st.

maybe she is happy with the way she treats the house, and how much she pays her, if she in agreement with you, then tell the lass, if not ya fighting a losing battle

Check your local gumtree for rooms to rent wanted and show her what people are willing to pay for just board alone.

was always 1/3 of income which was fair enough. used to help out, wash up, mow lawn etc. for that i had bed food, washing done, i did my ironing. so tbh it was cheap, btw that was ?30 in 1984 when i left school.

My stepson works part time (while waiting for his navy start date) and pays ?30 a week and his own vermin tv bundle. Stepdaughter is back living with us 17 years old and 20 weeks pregnant isn't working and pays ?20 per week and helps her mum out alot (or so I'm told) but she also shares a room so doesn't get charged as much. I will add stepdaughter is only back after helping gary1312 with his recent problem reminded me just how much support family members who have went of the rails abit need...It's funny how quickly you forget

When I started work in 1970, I was earning the princely sum of 50 bob a week and my mum would take 30 bob of that for my board (for the younger ones that is ?2-50 and ?1-50 ) and for as long as your step daughter is living the life of Riley there, she will be with you a long time. You will need a strong combined effort with your other half to either put up or put out this wayward child. Suggest to step daughter that unless she contributes more, then you will downsize the house and then there will be no room for her. At 23 it is time really for her to leave the nest.( in a clean and tidy state).

I dont know how you sleep with yourself accepting money from your mother its a disgrace...............
