They'll need to extend the pier by about 4 miles for me to dip the line in The Red Mate !
I walked down to the end of it last weekend and spent a fiver in the penny arcade ! .
10 old pennies for a pound , and it was chocker ! , what a gold mine !!

I think you will find that factory ships have more to do with it than individual nations.

its not all to do with fish stocks or availability of Cod. Years ago I remember my local fish & chip shop upping prices due to New potatoes. When old potatoes where back do you think the prices dropped...of course not and the next year the price went up again...why....New potatoes..Sod all to do with fish then. Now the newest excuse is fish quotas. In a word....bollocks... A good deal of this is blatant profiteering from the whole industry. There are alternatives to cod by the way. Mostly people would not even realise they were eating something different but for reasons that fail me they are not used.
I sea fish with rod and line and catch Pollock. It is in abundance on wrecks. Personally I think it tastes better than cod. It is firmer (doesn't break up) It would certainly be cheaper than cod so why does the industry not push it.
PROFIT. They want prices to stay high for their own ends. Sod the end user as long as they are making huge profits from the meager catches they bring in.
Only my view. but I reckon very close to the truth.
