I used to work for British Gas mate

Absolutly wouldn't recommend turning the meter round.
There are seals on the new metric meter that would have to be broken in order to turn it round.

Every so often your meter is "Inspected" rather than read and this would set alarm bells off and you'd be under investigation.
Also worth pointing out that the utility companies can apply for a warrent to enter your premises to inpect a meter, if you keep refusing entry to a reader/inspector or beleive the meter to have been tampered with in any way

You really son't want caught at that game mate

Someone please tell me if I'm being totally niaeve but could u not simply put say ten pound on ur card then before putting it in ur meter copy it with ur smart card reader then put ur card in the meter then just re write the card again an again? I would try this but I don't have a card reader any thoughts?

You will also find that your address has purchased $10 of gas in a year, therfore you are 'getting' your gas from elsewhere.

I know this thread should be laid to rest, but I recieved a letter from EDF today that's relevent & a good warning.

Important : Prepayment electricity credit fraud

We've been made aware of fraudulent activity, where prepayment electricity meter customers have been offered discounted credit by individuals posing as door-step sellers.

These individuals are selling prepayment credit for approximatley half the price of the amount of electricity offered. However, this credit is illegal and is not authorised by EDF Energy.

Energy companies can detect when they have not received payment for electricity used. Any customer that is identified as having bought illegal credit will still be liable to their energy company for the full credit value - in effect paying twice, once to the unauthorised salesperson then the full amount again to the supplier. Only the unauthorised door-step seller will benefit.

Always decline any offer to buy electricity credit on your doop-step. Although EDF Energy salespersons may visit homes from time to time, they will never offer customers prepayment credit. Ensure that you only buy your electricity credit from recognised PayPoint outlets.

If you think you've received unauthorised credit, or if you are aware of this activity in your area, you can call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, if you would like to speak to one of your advisers, please call us free on 0800 096 5040.
So it can be done, but you will still end up paying for what you use.

its basic stuff like running a tap the more its open the more pressure is behind it
sorry mate but you are wrong..very wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!

1)the meter has no way of reducing pressure, this is done by a govenor on the meter inlet.

2)the govener constantly moves inside as the pressure fluctuates coming into your house

                    3) reducing the pressure using your emergency valve is the most absurd thing ive ever heard .apart from being dangerous, if a second appliance was to be used then your pressure would halve again and nothing would work properly.

electronic meters (prepay or not)only have to be banged slightly and they will turn off, you will then need to call transco to reset
and then questions will be asked

I'll happily contribute to your gas supply. Been letting rip with some high octane gaggers since christmas. Currently averaging 6 high volume releases per hour.

Maybe moving from rich christmas food to tins of beans & sausages spiced up with dried chili flakes & hot caribbean sauce, may not of been a bright idea
