To be honest you can say anything and if someone takes it the wrong way you're in the shit..

"I didn't mean it to be a racist comment" won't wash anymore.. If it was taken by the target as being racist then I'm afraid in today's employment then that's what it will be classed.. Especially if there's bad blood..

If the White lad flipped out and said that after that question then he sounds like a racist anyway to me..

        What a nobber

          My thoughts exactly.

          THE TRUTH
          The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

That's why the country is so ~~~~ed up and the race card is the biggest "get out of jail card free" played and I can only see it getting worst. I'm self employed and have to visted a lot of factories where they employ lesser educated people, the race issues there need addressing but its not usually the people that are born in this country hurling it and soon as people return fire to these "racists" they are in the office demanding dismissals............absolute madness

If your black friend decides to complain then I fear that your white friend will find himself in trouble, perhaps even without a job. Not because what he said was racist but becausethats just the way the world has become. You've only got to look an ethnic minority the wrong way and you'll be branded a racist. I would also imagine that this would not be the kind of grief your employers will want and so will probably take action against your friend.
In my opinion though, what your friend said was not racist but can be construed that way if that what you black friend decides to do. If he does complain though, then personally, I think he needs to be told to grow to f**k up

To be honest I think Opsmonkey is bang on. It's how the comment is perceived by not only the person who it's been directed at, but any witnesses. If for instance a third paty heard the comment and thought it was offensive (even if they were not black) they would be within there rights to complain.

I take it on board re both of these should sort out there differences, but if someone came to me with this at our place I would have to do something about it. Most organisations have a whistle blowing policy as well now, so if a third party heard a perceived racist comment - they should report it to management.

I think how this incident has been discribed, it's a pretty stupid thing for the white guy to say.

it sounds like work banter to me, it only becomes an issue if it's made one,
I used to drive taxi's, so worked with asians, black, and white guys, this kind of banter went on all the time, one asian guy used to call the black lads, "black fellas",
then one day this black guy said to him "your black as well"
and he said no I'm not, when god put us in the oven he took you white people out to soon, so your under cooked, you black fellas, he left in a bit too long so your slightly burned,
but I was took out just at the right time so I'm golden brown,
now to me that's funny not racist.

Considering that it was the black guy (who is an enemy of the white guy) brought it up in the first place then it would seem to me to be intended provocation and this should be the primary point on which the white guy makes his stand should the matter escalate.

no i dont think its racist. this world is pc gone bloody mad.

i dont regard saying paki as being racist as its short for pakistan the same way scots is short for scottish and aussie short for australian.

i dont get offended if people call me wee Lainie and neither does my boyfriend get offended being called big davie.

i wish things like that was all i had to worry about.

just try not to get draged in to it , tbh they should just no speak it all.

I dont have any black mates tbh, I worked with black guys who wer forever saying the niger this and niger that ,
its a word imo no one should use it or every one should use it.
is every one racist ? is it just natural?

Sorry for being 'one of the pc crowd', but the term 'Paki' is racist and I'm sure most if not all Asians living in the UK would concur. It's not the same as Scots and Aussie.
