You didn't refer to 'a chinky', in the post quoted you referred to 'Paki'. The term 'Paki' is racist and offensive in 2011 end of I think??

And re the term being offensive to Asians as apposed to just Pakistani's, this is because the term has been used against not only Pakistani's (as the article in the times refers to). I can't imagine a racist when about to abuse a person of Asian decent saying "excuse me just checking if you're Pakistani or maybe Indian, because if you're Indian I can't call you a Paki." Can you?

Look at the times article 'the man'.

And the ref' to Indians and Pakistani's was an example... I used to work in Asia mate, I'm well aware that there are more countries in Asia than India and Pakistan..

Just to clarify, who's post was racist?

And in answer to you're earlier post. 'Sambo' is a racist term too. God I haven't heard that since the 80's wern't aware people were still saying it?

I have to agree with mattybhoy on this one.
The word "Paki" IS racist and IS used to offend and degrade the victim.
I own a taxi office and have Asian drivers working with me, not a day goes by without at least one of the drivers getting called that word in a abusive & threating manner.

I never hear "White" drivers saying ive just been called a "Whitie" or "Brit" or "Honkey."

We have had court cases where the passenger(s) have become violent towards the Asian drivers & ALWAYS seem to use that word along with others like "Black, Browny, Wog, Nigger." In several cases the judge ruled that, the word "PAKI" IS racist & offensive.

Thing is, you will never know if words like this will offend you or not, unless you are at the receiving end every day!

Anyway, the above is from first hand experiance.
SLOWLY, OUR FREEDOM IS BEING ERASED.
SOON, WE WILL JUST BE A NUMBER.
IF WE DON'T FOLLOW, WE WILL BE ERASED.

When you call some one paki or black it is another way of offending the week because he is more likely not going to take the actions but if you are brave enough to offend the government the consequences you may end up in Guantanamo Bay camp for just saying bXXb in the airport so words do offend and can ruin your life.

This thread was started as a specific question about a specific incident. Unfortunately it seems to have been dragged off-topic into the usual generalised "race card" free for all.

When it comes to racism, context is everything.

In the context of the OP's scenario, the remark was racist as well as stupid.

In my experience, most racism is based on stupidity and ignorance, rather than any evil intent.

I would put forward the argument, that 'white' isnt a race. so therefore saying that you wont get a tan because you are white is by extension not racist either

I don't do this often, but I agree with Nara.

Because of the past & aggressive tone used, it would be a racist remark. If it had been said in a more light hearted way then it would be more a reverse racist remark. Making fun of his own colour.

Used to work with an asian lad many years ago. While playing football he used to shout out stuff like.. 'over here, I'm free... ~~~~ing pass the ball...over here.. I'm the ~~~~ing black one.

When leaving the field we passed close to a small brick shed. Next thing he's getting all excited.... Look at that ~~~~er! That would make a great shop.

He was well aware that most would be shocked at his actions. It just gave us all a good laugh. This was before the PC brigade put on their jack boots & stomped all over common sense.

That's the problem, It's because he said it in a aggressive manner. I think he might be disciplined

i also agree with nara on this one.

i think it was said purposly in a manner to be racist, or at least insulting.

                              two points.

                              1. why did he say " i am white , i will not tan"?
i am white and i tan very well or burn like ~~~~ if im out in the sun too long.
you would he have given the same reply to a white person?

                              2. if they don't like each other, why the ~~~~ are they excahanges niceties about holidays and the like?
stay the ~~~~ away from wach other...
                              problem solved.......
