Makes me laugh all these petitions on websites like face****. Like what the hell are they ever going to do

Tax on fuel was always going to go up, it always does. Make the common motorist pay for the mistakes the government made.

Incorporate road tax into the cost of the petrol.

You would still need to buy a tax disk, but only for about ?10.

Then working on an average of 10,000 miles per year at 40mpg with tax a standard ?300 per year. It would add 26p per litre to fuel prices.

If you drive an economical car you could see a saving, maybe. Mid range cars should balance out, but gas guzzlers (like mine) and/or high milage people would be hurt.

Transport companies could apply for licences to use red diesel, as could bus companies that run national routes. Local services could apply for tax deductions based on performance.

Foreign companies/drivers will have to pay full price.

It may not be popular with some, but it's a lot fairer than the current system.
This is a fairer system, and one which is used abroad in places like Spain and France (I am ready to be corrected). One of the main benefits of this system is that when travellers from other countries come here and buy petrol here, they are contributing to the repair and maintnance of the roads, whereas if we have a separate road tax charge if they where here for a long time like 5 months, they wouldnt not pay a thing for using our roads.

too true Mate ! , this is the the main reason the government are going down the road of GPS "tagging" of all vehicles , because does anyone think for one moment that when , (and it won't be long) , before an alternative to fossil fuels are found , the hydrogen fuel cell being one , we won't pay tax anymore ?
They won't be able to screw us on the Co2 emissions any longer , but will track and tax us per mile , for wearing out the roads , bearing in mind that only 10% of the road tax revenue the government receives from us actually goes on road repair , can we expect a 90% reduction, Nah!

if its pre year 2000 it maybe ok. try mixing veg oil with diesel first, 25% veg. if its ok try more.
If in doubt leave it, the repair can be costly.
There is information on the net about which cars are suitable if you do some reading.

Yes agree with everybody here, WAY too expensive.

perhaps the OP could find/bump/spam/link a petition at no10.gov/petions (google it) then with 200,000+ members signing up + other inferior websites, we can just see we are wasting our time .

              Look it it this way.

Your car is 200 per year to tax, a thick person working on the roads, BT, NTL, gas, electric, council, whoever - that 200 will only pay approx a weeks wages.

Same with council tax - sort of

Where i live they were suppose to use the tax on gas for repairing the roads but they never do. They just collect the tax and use it for other things the roads here are some of the worst in the world so the best thing to do is fight any tax increase
