    Xavi backs bid for Fabregas

Xavi is confident that Cesc Fabregas would be a success at Barcelona if the Arsenal captain returned to Camp Nou.

Arsenal have rejected an offer from Barcelona for the midfielder and are insistent that they do not want to sell the Spain international.

However, the Primera Liga champions are continuing to pursue a deal for the player who originally left the club as a 16-year-old and remain hopeful of adding Fabregas to their squad for next season.

Current Barca schemer Xavi, who is due to play alongside Fabregas for Spain at the World Cup, has already expressed his belief that the 23-year-old will be back at Camp Nou this summer.

And, if Barca are able to persuade Arsenal to sell their captain, Xavi has no doubt that Fabregas will be a hit with Pep Guardiola's side.
    Barca DNA

"I would love him to come," he told Barca TV. "I have already told him so.

"He's a footballer made up of Barca DNA. I don't have any doubt that Cesc would triumph at Barca."

Meanwhile, despite winning a multitude of trophies during his Barca career, Xavi insists he is enjoying playing for the club as much as ever.

He added: "I am having a great time, but I can't stop. The demands are big, everyone wants to come to Barca and the team is getting better every year.

"You have to play 10 out of 10, you have to play perfectly."

Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated that there will not be too many changes to his Manchester United team over the summer, insisting his squad is good enough to challenge for major trophies.

yeh challenge maybe win something is a different matter unless he has seen something in the youth that is going to make a big impact this year we need to buy to win league or CL

                        Vidic to consider future

Nemanja Vidic's agent has hinted that the defender could leave Manchester United after the World Cup as he has yet to make a decision on his future.

Vidic attempted to put an end to transfer speculation towards the end of the season by insisting that he had no plans to leave Old Trafford before his current deal expires in 2012.

However, Real Madrid have again been linked with a swoop for the Serbia international and his representative has refused to rule out a move.

According to agent Paolo Fabbri, Vidic does not want to focus on anything other than the World Cup at present and will consider his club situation later in the summer.

"At the moment there is no news," said Fabbri. "Nemanja has obviously left for the World Cup with Serbia and is concentrating on that.

"We are waiting for information. We are waiting for Nemanja to tell us what he wants to do, so at the moment we are waiting as it is up to him."

                        World Cup focus

Asked whether United had offered Vidic a new deal, Fabbri said: "He is concentrating on something else so I guess it won't be until after the World Cup that he makes a decision on his future.

"We have requested some time from Manchester United to think about things, and Nemanja does not want to look at things until after the World Cup."

Fabbri insisted that Real Madrid had yet to make a formal approach for Vidic, who has been at Old Trafford since 2006.

"We have not heard anything official from them and Nemanja has requested I do not speak about particular clubs while he is at the World Cup," he explained.

"Any eventual transfer will only take place after the World Cup."

                          Arsenal warned off Koscielny

Lorient have told potential suitors that they do not need to sell any of their best players, amid rumours that Arsenal have made an increased offer for centre-back Laurent Koscielny.

The highly-rated 24-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances in Ligue 1 over the past 12 months and Arsene Wenger is thought to have identified him as a transfer target for this summer.

Reports suggest that the Gunners have already had two bids for Koscielny rejected by the French club but are determined to secure his services.

Strengthening the defence is a priority for Wenger as it is still unclear whether out-of-contract duo William Gallas and Sol Campbell will be staying at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal's initial offer for Koscielny was believed to be in the region of ?4million, while they were then prepared to do a deal that would also involve youngster Francis Coquelinmoving on loan in the opposite direction.

The Gunners have now lodged a bid of ?8.2million, according to reports, although Lorient are determined to keep hold of their key men.

"We do not need to sell," chairman Loic Fery said in the Daily Mirror.

"We are fortunate to have a solid financial structure."

                            Hammers eye double swoop

West Ham co-chairman David Gold has revealed the club have not given up hope of signing Joe Cole and Thierry Henry.

Former Hammer Cole will become a free agent at the end of the month following his release from Chelsea, while former Arsenal striker Henry could leave Spanish giants Barcelona this summer.

Both players are currently on World Cup duty in South Africa, but Gold and co-chairman David Sullivan have made it clear they are intent on making a "marquee" signing before the start of the new season.

Offers have been made for both Cole and Henry, although Gold does not expect anything to be finalised until after the South Africa showpiece.

                            Delicate

"We, as much as anyone, want England to do well at the World Cup so there's absolutely no chance of us talking to Joe during the World Cup," Gold said.

"We wouldn't do that during this very delicate period but after that, that's a different matter.

"When it comes to big transfers we don't like to leave any stone unturned.

"The chance of getting Cole is 10/1 and therefore there is a one in 10 chance of us getting him. We probably won't get him but the offer is still there.

"There is the same chance of Henry coming but we will try. We had a chat with him for a bit but it looks like he is going to be offered another contract.

"The offer is still on the table for him too and it will be there for another two or three weeks.

"We have had it in the past where we have thrown the net out far and we will throw the net out again in the future.

                            Happy
"When we were the owners of Birmingham City, nobody would have thought that we would have been able to get Christophe Dugarry but we did and he had an amazing half a season and he kept us in the Premier League."

Gold and Sullivan have emphasised their intent not to jeopardise the club's financial future by over-spending, but bringing in either player would undoubtedly boost ticket sales and give the club a bigger presence commercially.

One person who will not be leaving the club, according to Gold, is England goalkeeper Robert Green.

"Robert Green has two years left on his contract and we hope he will start the season and be with us for years to come so we are very happy with him," Gold said.

"He is a world class goalkeeper and we want him to stay with us."

                              Pienaar interesting Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed his admiration of Everton's Steven Pienaar but stopped short of revealing whether a bid will be forthcoming.

Pienaar was one of the Toffees' players of the season and is currently preparing for this summer's World Cup finals in his homeland of South Africa.
The talented midfielder has just one year remaining on his Goodison Park contract and, while talks have been ongoing, it seems a deal is unlikely to be agreed during the finals.

Arsenal have been tipped to move for the South Africa international this summer and Wenger believes the former Ajax man has come on leaps and bounds recently.

Pienaar scored one of the goals in Everton's 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium and Wenger has been impressed with how the ex-Borussia Dortmund man carried added responsibility during Mikel Arteta's absence.

                              Grown

"Pienaar has grown this year," explained Wenger.

"He was usually a very busy player where the final ball was missing a little bit, but this year he has gained in personality and he has kept his work-rate, so he has been much more efficient.

"What also played a big role in his growth was that Mikel Arteta was not there for a while and that he had to take the responsibility of being the playmaker of the team.

"He was one of the best players in England this year. He would get into the Arsenal team. I always had an eye on him since he was at Ajax."
