Bolton sign Martin Petrov from Manchester City

Bolton Wanderers have announced that Manchester City midfielder Martin Petrov will join the club on a free transfer on 1 July.
The 31-year-old was out of contract at Eastlands and was told in June that he would not be offered a new deal by manager Roberto Mancini.
Left-sided Petrov was signed by former City boss Sven Goran Eriksson from Atletico Madrid ?4.7m in 2007.
The Bulgarian international made 66 appearances for City, scoring 12 goals.
Petrov, who was Bulgarian Footballer of the Year in 2006, has previously played for German club Wolfsburg.
He has also made 77 appearances for Bulgaria, scoring 19 international goals.

      City eye Inter defender

Manchester City are chasing Inter Milan defender Nicolas Burdisso, according to the player's agent.

Burdisso's future at Inter looks uncertain with the Argentine international spending the whole of last season on loan at Serie A rivals Roma.
Roma are understood to be keen on making the move permanent, but they could face competition from City with the big-spending Premier League side ready to enter the race for his signature.

Burdisso's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, admits Inter could price the defender out of a move to Roma and that the Italian champions had informed him of City's interest.

Hidalgo told Sky Italia: "Burdisso? Roma and Inter will meet on Monday, the price fixed by Inter is very high and if there isn't agreement the player will return to Milan.

"But I don't know if there is place for him in Inter Milan. He wants to stay in Roma.

"Manchester City? The Nerazzurri have told me of the interest of the British club, I didn't know it".

Manchester United rule out move to sign Joe Cole

Manchester United have ruled out a summer move for England international Joe Cole, BBC Sport understands.
The 28-year-old midfielder was released by Chelsea earlier this month after falling out of favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Even before his Stamford Bridge exit, Cole had been linked with several other Premier League clubs.
Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be favourites to sign him but United are not expected to be one of the bidders.
Chelsea confirmed Cole's departure when they announced German midfielder Michael Ballack and right-back Juliano Belletti would also be leaving.
And although Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of Cole, a senior club source at Old Trafford said he would not be making a summer move to sign him.
Cole began his career at West Ham under Harry Redknapp, who is now manager of Spurs, and who will be able to offer him Champions League football next season should he wish to bring him to White Hart Lane.

He is part of the 23-man squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, although he did not feature in the opening two group matches.

                    Inter eye Melo not Mascherano

Nerazzurri chief insists Liverpool midfielder no longer a target

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has revealed they have turned their attention from Javier Mascherano to Felipe Melo.

The Nerazzurri were being strongly linked with Mascherano, who almost left Liverpool for Barcelona last summer, and initial discussions had begun with the Argentinian midfielder's camp.

However, the Italian champions have baulked at Liverpool's asking price for the 26-year-old, thought to be around ?25million.

Instead, Moratti admits they are now weighing up a move for Juventus midfielder Melo, who like Mascherano is currently on World Cup duty.

                    Intriguing

"Mascherano is a strong player, but it is unlikely that he will arrive," he said.

"He simply costs too much and it is not certain that Liverpool will sell.

"Melo is an intriguing idea and one that we are working on."

The Brazil international, also 26, could be made available as he has struggled to hit top form since his ?20million move to Juve from Fiorentina last summer.

Moratti insists strike pair Mario Balotelli and Diego Milito will not be leaving Inter this summer, though.

Brazilian right-back Maicon could follow Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid, however, as new Inter coach Rafa Benitez begins the unenviable task of following Mourinho's Treble-winning success with Inter last season.

                      Redknapp contacts Cole agent

Spurs boss waiting to speak to England international

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed he has contacted Joe Cole's agent regarding his interest in the England international.

Cole is available on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea was not renewed and he has several Premier League clubs on his trail.

His former club West Ham United, where he made his professional debut under Redknapp, have already expressed a wish to bring the 28-year-old back to Upton Park.

Redknapp has also repeatedly stated he is keen on the midfielder, but has previously cast doubt on his prospects of being able to bring Cole to Tottenham.

Earlier in the week, Redknapp suggested a deal may already have been done for Cole to join Manchester United, only for the Red Devils to reportedly rule out a deal for the playmaker.

And now Redknapp has stepped up his efforts to add Cole to his squad, although he accepts he may have to wait until after the World Cupfinals before being able to speak to the playe

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has admitted he is unsure where his future lies after rum

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has admitted he is unsure where his future lies after rumours suggested he could be about to leave the club.

The Dutchman - currently on duty with his national team at the World Cup finals - has been linked with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan.
Any switch for the front man to Italy would see him work under Rafa Benitez, who left Liverpool in the close season after six years at the helm to take over the job vacated by Jose Mourinho.
The Reds have yet to announce the Spaniard's successor, leaving Kuyt in limbo and unsure as to where he will be plying his trade next season.

                          Sol won't rush Celtic move

Sol Campbell insists he will not be rushed into making a decision about whether or not to join Celtic.

The former England defender held talks with Celtic officials on Tuesday after arriving in Glasgow to have a tour of Celtic Park and the club's Lennoxtown training facilities.

Campbell is a free agent after his short-term deal at Arsenal expired and he is weighing up his options.

New Celtic boss Neil Lennon has made the 35-year-old one of his top transfer targets but Campbell plans to hold discussions with Arsenal before making a decision on his future.

                          Ambitions

"I'm here to get a feel for the place more than anything else," Campbell told the Daily Record.

"I have to talk to Arsenal as well because they are still at the table, I have to talk to everybody but the main thing for me right now is my wedding and honeymoon.

"I don't think I'll be committing myself to any club until after that."

Campbell, who is believed to have been offered a two-year deal at Celtic, has admitted the Scottish club must prove their ambitions to him if he is to make the switch to Scotland.

"I've met with Neil Lennon," added Campbell. "The club know they will win the league or finish second. It depends on where they want to go in Europe."

                            N'Guemo concedes Celtic dream

Cameroon international midfielder Landry N'Guemo has conceded that his dream of securing a permanent move to Celtic is over.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Parkhead from French outfit Nancy and had hoped to join the SPL giants on a full-time basis this summer.

Despite making a total of 43 appearances for the Bhoys, N'Guemo will not return to Neil Lennon's side for the upcoming campaign, although remains a fan of the club.

N'Guemo is close friends with striker Marc Antoine Fortune and is predicting a big second season for the ex-West Brom man in Scotland following his mixed debut campaign.

                            Over

"My dream of signing for Celtic is over," he told the Daily Record.

"I will be watching them closely next term, especially as Fortune is still there.

"He will have a big year for Celtic next season.

"Fully fit, and with a year's experience in Scotland, he can have a great year.

"He will score a lot of goals and help Celtic become successful again."

Cardiff's Joe Ledley in talks over move to Stoke City

Cardiff City and Wales midfielder Joe Ledley held talks with Stoke City about a possible move to the Britannia Stadium, reports BBC Radio Stoke.
Ledley, who is out of contract with the Championship club, would command a fee as he is still under the age of 24.
The 23-year-old was in Stoke-on-Trent on Monday to visit the stadium and the club's new training facilities.
Celtic and Roma are among the clubs also linked with Ledley, who has scored two goals in 27 appearances for Wales.
Stoke had bids of ?5m and ?6m for the player rejected by Cardiff in September 2008, several weeks after the Potters had been promoted to the Premier League.
Ledley made his Football League debut as a 17-year-old and has played 255 games for Cardiff, including the FA Cup final defeat by Portsmouth in 2008.
He also scored in Cardiff's 3-2 loss to Blackpool in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May.
