Rangers have filed court papers signalling their intention to go into administration.

Rangers have filed court papers signalling their intention to go into administration.
The Ibrox club lodged the notice at the Court of Session in Edinburgh at lunchtime on Monday.

It is understood the papers are the first step in any formal administration process. They now have ten days in which to declare administrators have taken over the running of the Glasgow-based club.

This period allows the company to speak to creditors to see if they reach an agreement. If they enter administration the Scottish Premier League champions would automatically be docked ten points.

Rangers FC are currently awaiting the result of a ?49m tax case with HM Revenue and Customs in relation to the club's use of an Employee Benefits Trust to pay players and staff. It is thought the decision to lodge court papers means the result of this tax case is likely to be known imminently.

The Court of Session confirmed to STV that papers signalling the intention to appoint administrators had been received from the club's solicitors acting on behalf of their directors.

Christ! You have it all worked out dont you? Rangers should employ you as their very own comical Ali, nothing to see here!

I remember our situation very well and Mr McCann came in and saved us at the 11th hour but he paid his VAT AND tax bills. At that same period till the present day your beloved club had been run fraudulently by avoiding such bills. Hence the trouble you are in now.

Craig whyte is a known shyster who makes it his business to take struggling businesses down to make a quick buck as the main creditor. You are ready to go into admin for this very reason, and this is before you face the very real prospect of liquidation when Hector comes knocking looking for Madge's money.

Rangers are doing what thousands of businesses across the country are doing- They are trying to save themselves at the cheapest cost. In fact i think this may have been the plan all along.

If some of the players were any good they should be handing back some of the money they get every week to help keep it a float.

Could be worse though.... Celtic could take over

But then again they could be on thinner ice yet,

Just Like the Celtic Tiger.... now the Celtic Kitten !

Or maybe its a part of Salmon's plan to get all the Rangers fans to cross the border into England so he can get all the yes votes !

I make you right John. Think this was Whyte's plan all along - that's how he seems to handle debt with his companies. Though I do remember many a rangers fan on here saying that it wouldn't happen and if it did it would be the end of Scottish football. Hardly that.

Rangers will of course survive, but at what cost?

I tell you what if I was a rangers fan I would be very nervous about what's going to happen. Whyte may be the best man, but he seems a crook...
