They looked beat cause this tournament requires you to be fit. 3 days of rest between game is tough on a team. You have to admit if any players who play in the EPL (and it looked like the whole team does) play alot of games thru out the year. The EPL should take some type of break around Christmas and do away with the Carling Cup.

That just don't wash at all...lot of players who play in the premier league are playing for different teams and still playing...teams in Spain (RM and Barca) play as much if not more games for some of the teams and most of their players are still in the championship and doing very well......we just don't have the classy players we need....and they think they made it before they done anything.....thanks to the fantastic press we have. They looked beat cause this tournament requires you to be fit. 3 days of rest between game is tough on a team. Rooney.....one of the best players in the world....c'mon ffs....maybe in the top 10 or 15.
We got players like Milner and Parker and young making starts in every game...says it all really....

To be fair Zee you've taken unnecessary flack on this thread. The thread is a Euro's thread - not just an English one. Some are fine with slagging off other countries styles of play etc, but don't like it when it's their own country.
As a none Englishman living in the UK I can admit that my own team is shite, but I'm realistic in what we can achieve - unlike the UK media that over hypes the England team every time the World's or Euro's come around - which in turn feeds the public with unrealistic expectations.Comment

as they say truth hurts...
England had on average 39% of the possession in their four games, their lowest figure at a tournament since Euro 1980 and the figures get worse
30 Cristiano Ronaldo has had more shots in his first four games at Euro 2012 than the entire England squad (29) had at the tournament
20 Italy had more shots on target in their quarter-final match than England had in total in their four matches in Ukraine
88 England conceded more than twice as many shots to France, Sweden, Ukraine and Italy than they had against those teams
39 England had on average 39% of the possession in their four games, their lowest figure at a tournament since Euro 1980
29 Ashley Young and James Milner put in 29 crosses in the four games. Only three reached an England team-mate
300 England averaged 300 passes per match. The four semi-finalists have averaged 479
15 England completed only 15 passes in the 15 minutes of the second period of extra-time against Italy
18 England's most successful passing combination against Italy was the goalkeeper Joe Hart to the substitute striker Andy Carroll
115 Andrea Pirlo had more passes against England than England's four starting midfielders had against Italy
18 Mesut Ozil has created 18 chances in Germany's four games. Steven Gerrard, England's most prolific chance creator, has made six
102 England ran on average 102km in their four matches. Italy ran 7.5km further on average per match
86 England have had the most tackles in the tournament, with Steven Gerrard's 18 the most of any player
29 England have blocked the most shots at Euro 2012, 17 more than Italy, 19 more than Germany, 21 more than Portugal and 24 more than Spain
Stats supplied by Opta
England's player of Euro 2012, according to our readers' player ratings, was Gerrard. Gerrard pips Hart to that honour, with England's back four next on the list, reflecting where the emphasis of Roy Hodgson's team lay. With the exception of Jordan Henderson, who received low marks for his substitute appearances against France and Italy, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney were the worst England players on display in Ukraine.
Gerrard 6.80
Hart 6.63
Lescott 6.40
Johnson 6.38
Terry 6.20
Cole 6.15
Carroll 6.03
Welbeck 5.90
Parker 5.70
Walcott 5.68
Oxlade-Chamberlain 5.57
Defoe 5.10
Milner 4.80
Rooney 4.75
Young 4.60
Henderson 4.35

It's a 2nd rate league operating on a total shoestring budget since TV became king in football.
England has an embarrassment of riches, a massive population base and should be performing better.Comment

You're bang on bud.
If anyone has an opinion that doesn't consist of;-
England were unlucky
England are one of the best (if not the best) teams in the world
England has the best players in the world
Then you are anti English.Comment

Anyway, let's talk about the big teams that are left in the tournament.
As good as Italy were against England, I think they will struggle against Germany. They lack up front and unless De Rossi gets his finger out, I think Schweinsteiger and Ozil will win the midfield battle. Possibly revert to the back 3 again, but Chiellini will be missed.
I see Spain are starting with Negredo, glad to see they have a recognised front man on. Still can't see past Spain, Ronaldo or no RonaldoComment
