World Cup 2010: Beckenbauer sorry for England criticism

Franz Beckenbauer has apologised for his negative comments about the England team ahead of their World Cup second-round match against Germany.

He had accused England of going "back to the old days of kick and rush" and later suggested they were "burnt out."
But the Germany legend told BBC Sport: "I apologise, because I like England and I like English football.

"Maybe it was a reaction because I was disappointed [with England's performances] and maybe in a bad mood."

Beckenbauer, Germany's World Cup winning captain in 1974, added: "Before the World Cup I was convinced England would play a major role in the tournament and maybe win the title.
"They have a great team and a great coach - Fabio Capello is one of the most experienced coaches - and after the first two games I was so disappointed.

"In other words, I apologise and I look forward to the game on Sunday. I think it's going to be a very interesting game."
Beckenbauer also joked that he hoped Germany beat England on penalties, just as they did in the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup - when he was their coach - and the 1996 European Championships.

Wonder what made him say sorry
IM SORRY but i will never have any sympathy for maggie thatcher .... the bitch

"The intention is to win it in 90 minutes and I'm confident we will do what's needed," said goalkeeper James.
"If it goes to penalties there's an opportunity for Germany to miss. The key issue is homework."
so their goalie will go the wrong way, cos "he" hasn't done his "homework"? goalies dont need educating in penalty takers... ask brucie..
we did not need pens in '66 or when "liverpool" beat them 5-1, and they didnt need pens in '70... if you are good enough, you will win....
as for penalty takers, would not let a left footer take one in a million years... except robbie, that is...

Hmmmm is that not counting the 22 premier league players who are in the squad right now.

              THE TRUTH
              The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

I think the only teams able to beat England are Spain, Brazil, Argentina (shite defensively) and Portugal maybe like they did last time, But not Germany. No other teams are as good as us, We are up there with the best, I just hope wayne rooney pulls his ****ing finger out of his arse and burys a few on sunday. Just wait till tomorrow and watch the English style triumph over The Germans.

listen. the "english" premier leaugue is full of foreigners. the best players in the world dont play there anymore. most of your englishmen play in the championship, leaugue1 and 2 not abroad like they should be doing.
how many germans play in the bundesliga compared to englishmen in the premiership for example. i'm not denying the premership is best in the world, it pays the best wages so it should be. but the national side is paying for it. just look to the next world cup in brazil and try to name the 23man squad it doesn't look pretty. the fa needs to do something now!!!!!!!

the english national teams only success was in 1966, the premier league was founded in 1992. why didnt england win anything in those 26 years.
thanks for your opinion, thats what were about, but think it through a little bit more.

England manager Fabio Capello says his only selection dilemma for Sunday's last 16 clash against Germany is who will partner John Terry at centre-back.
Defender Ledley King returned to full training on Saturday meaning Capello's 23-man squad are all fit and available.
"I have to decide who will play with John Terry," said Capello.
"Matthew Upson played well, Jamie Carragher played well and King played well, I have to choose. It is more or less the only decision I have to make."
After a knee injury ruled captain Rio Ferdinand out of the tournament, Capello started with King and Terry as his centre-back partnership in the 1-1 draw with the United States.
But when King limped out of the game against the US at half-time, Terry was partnered by Carragher, who kept the shirt against Algeria until a second yellow card ruled him out of England's final group game against Slovenia.

                            Beckenbauer predicts German shootout win

West Ham's Upson started that decisive match and produced a good performance which included a goal-saving challenge in the 1-0 win, making him favourite to keep his place alongside Terry.

english football in the 70's and 80's was crap and was ruined by hooligans. the national sides in 90 and 96 were very unlucky, but there was a wider choice of players to choose from then. just look at 3 keepers england had in 1990 compared to now. if you think everything is fine and rosy your blind. premier league clubs are bringing through their ranks far to many foreign youngsters. it happened in scotland and it can happen in england
