Interesting interview with Richard Cabon on BBC 1 earlier. Remember Richard was the Sports minister and part of the London Olympic bid team.

He was saying how the English FA are seen by other countries and that the FA is in need of change. He was inferring that they are stuck in there ways and arrogant (although he put it in a different way). He was leveling the blame on them, stating that they should have been doing more a few years ago and not leaving it for the last few months in terms of the hard sell.

He also referred to the Panarama programme and pointed out that they did the same prior to the 2012 Olympic vote - only the programme went out 5 months before, rather than 3 days before the vote.

I think Richard Cabon is bang on re the FA. They are disliked by a lot of other football associations which may date back to the Euro 96 bid? If you remember the English FA did several deals with other associations then - the most famous one being with Germany. The FA said you back down from bidding for Euro 96 and vote for us and we will not oppose you in the World Cup bid of 2006. Germany kept there side of the bargin but England didn't.

I think the FA has used up it's favours and with the same faces being in place there it doesn't help. The FA is in need of reform.

Mate they didn't do it for nowt. So they paid for there own travel and accomadation expenses? Imagine how much that was for the three of them (including the PM). They also would have done a fair bit of networking which would have helped all three of them. As far as I'm concerned it's in the PM's and Prince Williams job description to promote the country - they both get paid enough from you and me (especially Wills' and his family).

i seriously dont think blatter hates england but theres certainly no love lost, and the fact was probably cemented in his brain once panorama exposed some shady goings on within the FIFA corp
it has now emerged that 5 officials had told the uk camp that they would be voting for there bid but after the programme this turned into only 2 votes and one was from a brit !!! not putting the whole blame on panorama but it certainly didnt help the cause
also FIFA are a private company not a public one and would certainly not take too kindly to anyone trying to uncover corruption,,,,they are as corrupt as ~~~~~ so were probably well pished off when the bbc came nosing about
i heard somebody on the radio today stating that the FA now had the chance to spearhead a worldwide investigation nto corruption at FIFA,,,it beggars belief ,,,,they are as corrupt as the next lot,,,,i had to laugh when i heard that one

Sorry Maca im not following what ur saying, i believe that the panarama programme played a big part in us not getting the WC even when Blatter was announcing the result he was making remarks that indirectly had a pop at England and our press. Anyway its not coming here and i cant see it coming for another 40yrs at least.

FIFA needs a massive overhaul... The BBC & Sunday Times investigated only 2 members and they both were corrupt as fcuk..

I can understand the need to publish, but when it was evident that they were corrupt maybe we should have withdrawn our bid and chose not to associate ourselves with their backhand deals...

It looks like we would have never won as we didn't cross their palms with dollars...

A nice big investigation into the very top of the FIFA tree may bring it falling down..

Spot on mate. As I've said on one of the sports threads on this - Richard Cabon's interview on BBC1 this morning was quite insightful.

He was basically saying that the FA are in need of reform/overhaul because of how they are..

I also said on another thread that some of the past deals what the FA did with other associations - and reneged on, has come back to haunt them.

It is all about money and the sponsors. The Russian market is still relatively untapped. They grease the palms of the people making the decisions. The rich Arabs will be next. Perhaps Blair, a master in shady dealings would have been better (even though I personally think Blair should be in prison). I bet Putin and his henchmen were having a laugh while watching the pitching's.
