What sim u got in? Try a different one 02,orange etc, once you get that, then u should unlock..... Can u check firmware,baseband etc now?

At this stage you just need a t-mobile sim to activate it,I always go to iclarified for info and help following advice received on here.

thanks guys for all your replys and help ,what iam getting now is a red dot on phone icon and when i go into that i see red dot on the voicemail icon anyone got any ideas please

What firmware/ baseband ? What does carrier say in settings,as the phone accepted your sim

1 network not available (has orange sim card in it the same card that was in the phone when found) tryed an o2 card and not working

2 its version 4.2.1 (8c148a)
3 carrier is orange uk 9
4 model is mc132b
5 modem firmware is 05.15.04
6 i think it is a 3gs

Bit tricky for you m8 you need to update your firmware to ipads 06.15.00,or easy option try a new sim:. Or goto dev-team blog and follow instructions,I have done it new firmware then jailbreak/unlock good luck .try sim easy option first

Ok if you have mc132b then the phone is a 3GS and Country: UK Carrier: O2 .
If you put a sim from o2 uk you can activate it.
If you don't have a o2 uk sim then you need to jailbreak.
For doing this you need to use redsnow.
If you need to unlock the phone select also the baseband 06.15 in the choice of redsnow.
Pay attention to warnings of using this baseband .
Example on my personal phone the GPS have accuracy problems ...

You need to either find out what network it's locked to & insert their SIM.
Or, get a Hacktivate SIM off ebay.

Be advised, if you use the hacktivate SIM & unlock the iphone using redsn0w, you will need to read up on the battery issue & patch.

I think there may be an easy way around this, you legally own the phone now, and you can prove that (if you needed too) take it to the Apple store and they can reset it for you.

If it has been banned by the networks, you can get it restored but the networks tend to ignore people asking for them to be restored - however they can restore it, as you do legally own the phone.

Just goto local newsagents n get another sim from same network,they are about a ?1 each,or jailbreak then unlock.....easy peasy....defy!

am i right in saying you can only jailbreak to the ipad firmware ??? with this phone ???

surley if this had been banned by the network then it would have had to have been reported lost or stolen and therfore reported to the police who should have returned the phone then to the owner or insurance company etc?

as this aint happened then the phone can not be banned from the network and putting the correct provider sim in will get it up and running which seems to be 02 as mentioned earlier .

so for the sake of a ?1 sim card you may aswell get one .

ok some points to clear up


1 the phone was found in ireland and is locked to a uk network

2 the carrier is orange uk 9 the sim in the phone was an orange sim card ( i have tryed an irish o2 card it dont work )
3 have ordered orange sim card from uk will see what happens when that comes
4 have ordered 1 of them unlocking sims also .
