Hi, same happened here. One day my little boy's NDSi XL was working with R4i 3DS Gold, the next day we got the message that firmware has expired and we need to update.
So I followed same steps as with installing flashcard for the first time and sadly got the message: 'An error has occurred. Press and hold power button to turn the system off'.

I have tried formating although not with the program you recommend (I'm going to do it today again).

Same as PhatBob I didn't have an access to internet through NDSi so no upgrade was possible.
Just checked the version and it is 1.4.4E.
I downloaded kernels from the website which was on the card R4i-GOLD Revolution for NDSi/NDSL/NDS

I would like to go through all the options before I buy a new card.
PhatBob any luck with yours, my case seems exactly the same.
What else worried mummy can do ?
    Thanks

If i committed a 'computer faux pas' by not expressing myself correctly or misspelling some words i am deeply sorry

1.4.4 is the latest version, so probably will have been updated.

        which card do you have?

        what is printed on it?

Hi, those are pictures of my card. And yes I think the last time I was checking the version was 1.4.2 and now it's 1.4.4. No idea how it happened :/

            you can update this card.

            1. download and instal latest firmware
            2. download the update file

you will need to update on an older dsi/3ds or a dslite.

in the update package you will find a .nds file.

when you put your card in an older where it stilll works you need to look select the update file same as you would any other game.

selecting it will start the update.

make sure there is plenty power in the battery or plug charger in when doing update and delete update file when finished..

it might, but you would hae to be carefull to get a card per-updated.

you see loads of these cards are already sold to resellers all boxed it.

it cost money to unbox, update and repackage cards.

so all though they are sold as "working" with 1.4.4, the card may still need an update.

Hi, newbie here on my first post, and I know nothing!

With the help of a very kind helper I've updated (?correct terminology?) my son's R4i card, using the website written on the card. The card is a 1.4.1 version R4i. It now works on an old DSlite (unfortunately the top screen is broken so he cant play games on there!) but won't work in his DSi.

I wonder if your advice, barrowmanandrew, 3 posts up ^^^ would help me though. Can you explain to me in very simple terms whether (and how to) I can update things using the old DSlite, so that it'll work in the DSi?

I get the screen which says 'an error has occurred, press & hold the power button' when I click on the start icon when the R4i is in the DSi. Thanks in advance!
