Hello I have been looking for answers to my problem and I think I have now found it here.
I have a 4.2 Wii softmoded.I cannot get my HDD to work with any USBloader. It works with HBs Media Player CE though.
I can use a 2Gb Lexar or a 500Mb pendrive these work fine with USBloaders.Do you think my HDD is not compatible

Have been trying sooo many differnt loaders to backup my precious disks but no joy. hopefully this one will work for me. Any chance it's because I've got a brand new black wii? I had no probs soft modding using idiana pwns. Just having trouble using anything but homebrew

Wii USB Loader v1.1 | developed by Waninkoko / kwiirk

                    Wii USB HD Loader

Yes, finally the wait for the USB HD Loader is over. The best thing for the Wii users has finally arrived. By using it, they can easily install and load all their backups from a USB HD without using any DVDs. The working of this application is confirmed.
For installing this application, you require the following downloads ?
                    Digital Kaos - Downloads - cIOS36_rev9-Installer

Digital Kaos - Downloads - USB HD Loader
If you do not want to download via the homebrew channel, here is another option, the link for Channels
Digital Kaos - Downloads - Wii USB HD Loader Channel
Here is a piece of information on the installation process for the people who want to get familiar with the setup of this application.
                    INSTALLATION
                    1. Download the ZIP file.
                    2. Extract it to the root folder of the SD card.
                    3. After this, there are two new folders (?USB Loader 1_0? and ?cIOS rev9?) in the ?apps? folder.
                    4. From the Homebrew channel, start the ?cIOS Installer?.
                    5. Select the type of installation as ?Network Installation? by pressing Right on the D-Pad.
                    6. If any errors come up during installation, rerun the ?cIOS Installer?. Make sure that every component is installed successfully.
                    7. Reboot.
                    8. Choose a USB drive and plug it in. Adjust it to make sure that the LED on the USB drive gets correctly powered on.
                    9. Reboot.
                    10. From the Homebrew Channel, start the ?USB Loader?.
                    11. If the black rectangular section is empty and without any text after the launching of USB Loader, press the power button on console to power cycle your Wii.
                    12. If you receive an error stating ?Could not initialize USB subsystem (ret=-1)?, then it does not support the plugged in USB device and you need to change it.
                    13. If you receive a warning stating that there are not any WBFS partitions, then it supports the USB drive you have plugged in.
                    14. Format a partition by pressing the ?A? button. (CAUTION: Always backup any significant data before pressing the ?A? button as formatting means deleting everything from the partition.)
                    15. In the next screen, choose the desired partition to be formatted and press the ?A? button.
                    16. After the completion of the partition formatting, a list of games (currently blank) comes up. Along with this, the amount of used space and the remaining free space are also displayed on the screen. (The correct size of the used and free space is not shown as a small bug is currently there in the software, but still it can be referred.)
                    17. Choose a Wii game disc for backup and insert it into the Wii.
                    18. Backup the disc by pressing the ?+? button. (The backup time of the disc can vary from 30 secs to 45 mins depending on the game. For example, Carnival games take 58 secs!)
                    19. After the completion of the backup process, press any button and the game selection screen is again displayed.
                    20. Eject the game disc.
                    21. Press ?A? after selecting a game from the list of games.
                    22. Now the game itself will load, and become fully playable from the USB drive!

NOTE: Some games successfully backup after the installation, yet during the gameplay they need the disc to be inserted (This seems to be the second identified bug).

Digital Kaos - Downloads - Wii USB HD Loader Channel

Here is an update on this app as i'm sure there will be people unsure on how to set this app up.

                      --- INSTALLATION ---

                      01. Download the ZIP file,

                      02. Extract the ZIP file to the root of your SD card.

                      03. You should now have two new folders, in your "apps" folder ("cIOS rev9" and "USB Loader 1_0").

                      04. Launch the "cIOS Installer", from The Homebrew Channel.

                      05. When it asks you the type of installation you want to use, press Right, on the D-Pad, and select "Network Installation."

                      06. Watch carefully, to be sure everything installs successfully. If you encounter any errors, rerun the "cIOS Installer", until it installs correctly.

                      07. Reboot.

                      08. Plug in your chosen USB drive. If your drive has a power light, be sure that it is correctly powered on.

                      09. Reboot.

                      10. Launch the "USB Loader", from The Homebrew Channel.

                      11. If the USB Loader launches, and the black rectangular section contains no text, you will need to power cycle your Wii, using the console power button.

                      12. If you receive "ERROR: Could not initialize USB subsystem (ret = -1)", then your USB device is NOT supported!

                      13. If you receive a WARNING that no WBFS partitions are found, your drive IS supported!

                      14. Press the "A" button, to format a partition. (WARNING:: Formatting a partition will delete EVERYTHING from that partition. Be sure to backup any important data, BEFORE pressing "A".)

                      15. The next screen will allow you to choose the partition you wish to format. Select the partition, and press "A".

                      16. After formatting is complete, you will be presented with a games list (currently blank). The screen will also show the amount of used space, and the free space remaining (There is currently a small bug, in the free and used space listings. The correct size is not shown, but it still can be used.)

                      17. Insert a Wii game disc you wish to backup.

                      18. Press the "+" button, to backup the disc. (Depending on the game, a disc can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 45 minutes to backup. Example: Carnival Games only took 58 seconds!)

                      19. Once the backup process has completed, press any button, to return to the game selection screen.

                      20. Eject your game disc.

                      21. Select your game from the game list, and press "A".

                      22. Your game should load, and be fully playable, from the USB device!!

NOTE: Some games will backup successfully, however will still require the disc to be inserted during gameplay (This appears to be another bug).
I have got the software but cannot seen to use the loader

you will only be able to play backups from a usb drive on a new wii
you can find out what system menu it is by clicking on the wii sign on the main screen then it will display in the top righthand cornerof the next screen.
this http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...indows-170234/ will mod any wii and will provide you with a more up to date usb loader than this.
