its an easy enough fix to do, done a few myself but and i mean but, once youve had the YLOD and fix it it will come bak to haunt you again

so once fixed just sell it on and get another 1

        just a bit of advice

have any of you had a look at the complete repair guide ive uploaded??? cant really remember but i think theres a section in there on the fix

I just went through this myself on my original 60GB console.

Search around your local area for someone who may have a proper 'reflow' machine. It's generally much cheaper than what Sony charges, but you will have much better success with the fix versus using a heat gun yourself.

Sadly, manufacturers have been moving towards using lead-free solder, which is better for the environment/landfills, but is much more susceptible to premature failure from heat. This is exactly why so many have begun experiencing RROD's and YLOD's.

With the latest 'slim' models, they use 60% less power and run much cooler than the 'fat' PS3's. It should hopefully help decrease the chances of the YLOD issue.

PS3 just died... red screen of death, shortly after upgrading the hard drive. I am sure they are related, just reformatted the drive though and still the same error :/

                    Hello all

A bit of advice please. I have an original 60gb ps3 that suffered from the YLOD. I had it repaired and all was well for a couple of months. Sadly the problem has re-occured.

Is it worth having it repaired again...or should I just buy a new one?

                              Question

has no one heard any offcial word from sony on this matter?

it seems to have been going on for far too long now
