Eset Nod32 is excellent for low system resources footprint. In terms of free with good system response times, Avira is pretty good. I find it far better than AVG.

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security ever since. No problem with my PC.
I have NEVER met a MAN so IGNORANT that I couldn't LEARN something from HIM.

i totally agree with this, and use the exact same products, but used to always use avast which i found ok as well

                Hi,
I am using Avast! anti virus and its quite bit helpful, and also does not affect the PC speed.
You can also try some other ones, but the main drawback with the free software is,they doesn't work on the long term use and also are not compatible in the some virus type, they also decrease the speed of the system and make the interruption in the application running on the computer.

I also use Avira and have never had a problem. Using it with XP firewall (up to date) and run malwarebytes twice a week

I would definitely go for Microsoft Security Essentials. Hassle free and doesn't slow your computer down.

It would have to be NOD32 from me,

Ive treid most (worked with them all) and all have there problems, even nod, but it was a small work around (it was to do with scanning certain folders for my htpc (mediaportal) and causing a tv lag not alot of people will encounter this ) other than this small footprint and never had a virus yet

People normally suggest, Avast and Avira free anti virus applications... But I've used both of them, and they are fine... not so bad... But currently I'm using Microsoft Security Essential....and it is working good.. System is working much better, and it is also a freeware can be downloaded from Microsoft official site..

Another vote for Nod32. When I used it years ago the interface wasn't that great-looking though, felt a bit cheapish. But it sure was good!

I also liked using AVG, BitDefender and Kaspersky. Never caught a virus with any of these, but they are also heavier on the system.
