This is probably the most helpful thread, and forum, that I've found.
In my particular case, I bought a Dell laptop from a coworker, who subsequently got fired. I can't track her down, and she apparently got the laptop from her old employer. Dell Support said I need that information in order to transfer ownership. So I'm stuck.
I've Googled around, and found the 3 options of Dell laptop password removal:
1- Remove all power, including Mobo battery
2- Find a certain chip on the motherboard, and shunt legs 5 and 6 to wipe all BIOS settings.
3- Get master password from Dell Support.
So obviously #1 didn't work. Me being inquisitive and somewhat experienced, I took the whole laptop apart, and examined every chip, and didn't see one with the described markings. So I called Dell, and as I said above, they won't help me. And since the hard drive just went (BOOTMGR not found), and this is a non-standard hard drive (ZIF connector, 1.8" drive), I can't just slave it up on another PC and copy the setup files.
I'm so happy I found this forum, and you gracious strangers who help. In advance, thank you so much. :-)
Now, to business. Mine is a Dell Latitude D430. I hope that won't be an issue, as I would think the algorithm would be the same among all Dell units.
Service tag: 80L5WD1-595B
Express Service Code: 17449805845
I do hope you can help me. Thank you! :-)Comment
