Can't be done by code calculator and can't be done for free!Hello friends i have a Huawei E367u-2 Model Dongle from 3uk which i am trying to unlock. I spoke to a local guy also who advsd that dongles with starting IMEI:86 cannot be unlocked.

Suggest: www.dc-unlocker.com it's around 8 Euros.
Some 86 IMEI devices can be unlocked by code but devices like the E367 use a new algorithm...Comment

There is only a patch unlock that's free - The results are mixed.
Technically it's not a true unlock because a firmware upgrade at any time will re-lock the device.Comment

I'll take whatever I can
However the modem I own (E353) runs a new firmware (v22). The unlockers I ran into seem to be looking for a serial port to communicate with the modem (and assume v11 firmware). The E353Ws-1 with the v22 firmware presents itself as a network device, rather than a serial port.
Could you shed some light on that? How come DC Unlocker can detect this modem but other unlockers can't?Comment

You should see a diagnostic serial port. Huawei and the networks are trying to crack down on the (formerly) simple unlocking of their devices!
I'd go for the DC Unlocker route at least you can be sure of a working modem at the end of the day!!Comment

Hi Jim
I have a vodafone modem I dont have the model number on me right now but its 4 digits starting with a "3" and a Z at the end, which from your previous posts I gathered its a ZTE.
I am also in South Africa, and find it interesting that you say by law these are not locked.
I have the ZTE dashboard on my computer but, if I insert a MTN card i just dont get network, the modem keeps flashing red.
I also still have the vodafone dashboard, as for me it works better than the ZTE one with vodascum at least.
THe ZTE dashboard is set to start up automatically when the modem is plugged in.
Can the vodafone dashboard still cause the ZTE one to not accept MTN or is there something else i should do?
Your help will be much appreciated.
ThanksComment

Vodafone (aka Vodabloat) software will not recognise any network other than a Vodafone owned network!Hi Jim

The modem isn't locked (as per ICASA rules) but sadly the software is!
You can use MDMA in place of the Vodafone software, it's written by a South African! MDMA - a Mobile Data Monitoring Application
Make sure than no other Vodafone software is running or you'll get a COM port error!
There was a tutorial on how to edit the installed Vodafone software so that it accepts any SIM. It's not that difficult but some files need their attributes changed from read only or they will not save!!
Have a look at MyBroadband it's on there somewhere!Comment
