If your modem is network locked to your current operator then you will need to use the unlock code if you want to change networks and use a SIM from another operator!




Did it ever work? If it was supplied by MTN South Africa, the modem will NOT have been locked in this case the IMEI may be blacklisted as the device may have been reported lost or stolen.

I bought it from MTN Nigeria and it was locked..when I unlocked it and changed the dashboard I am able to use it with my MTN SA cos i'm in south africa now..but it won't accept my Vodacom sim. Thanks

You only need to flash the modem if you want update the dashboard software or if you wish to upgrade the firmware in the modem. The latter may require the Flash Code.

Flashing is done by downloading the appropriate firmware. See links posted earlier. Generally this is not required in fact almost pointless unless you have problems.

However, you may wish to install a new unbranded dashboard and you can download here: Dc-unlocker | download - ZTE, Sonyericsson ,Sierra Wireless Aircard, Sierra, Option, Novatel, Maxon, Huawei

The E156, E156G, E160, E160G, E169 & E169G all use the same dashboard.

In both cases download the appropriate dashboard or firmware and run the file and follow the prompts.
