the fai is the governing body of football in ireland they blocked wimbledons attempt at playing in dublin(stating domestic football would suffer) unlike popular belief bskyb has nothing whatsoever to do with eire, sky have the irish rights(same as sky de). as for not being policed i dont think there is a pub in ireland that imro or emro or whoever the f##k they are go into and hassle every couple of months. the premier league reason for not showing 3pm kick offs was it would effect gate receipts hence settanta ire being able to show them. i would be interested to know if any pub in eire has actually been prosecuted for showing a domestic card in the pub. i very much doubt it not because of leniency but due to constitutional issues i would say the prem league will have the same issues trying to enforce there copyright in eire or nigeria the congo kenya or zambia or a million other countrys. the fai might have nothing to do with prem league broadcast rights but the prem league will have no way of stopping anyone from ouside of the uk showing this logo without alot of cooperation from the countrys involved. every household in ireland has had bbc off a terrestriel arriel for 20yrs how many of them payed the bbc licence fee?. if sky really thought this is going to work why would they still be going to the bother and money blocking english coms from other providers.

Fair point.
I watch BBC etc via Freesat.
I never watch RTE etc, but I still have to pay the licence fee!
I never, ever watch football.
But I have helped the odd pub with hardware to receive foreign footy broadcasts.Last edited by excollier; 5 February, 2012, 14:12.Get to the Ulster Grand Prix

if you take it a stage further
you own a pub in the uk and are showing sky or espn on a domestic package you get prosecuted but if you were showing setanta in your uk pub off a domestic irish card what happens? they turn or try to turn it off, end of why do you think this is? so its a 2way street. on the other hand now this logo is present you can now be prosecuted for breaking copyright ( in the uk anyway) it will also be the same for nova tring and all other providers showing the logo in the uk i would think. the difrence with ireland is constitutional s##t because in ireland they right ten pages of crap when one page would do the job(job justifacation) so when certain things are translated into law its a legal minefield not black and white as europe would have everyone believe.
so by the time they come close to sorting this lot out jsc will probably hold the rights for the prem i feel gutted for sky but never mind i see they bought rights for gaa and the irish league so its not all bad. perhaps the gaa will add there logo to stop setanta and sky showing it outside of ireland!!!
by the way this ruling wasnt made by the european court it was the high court in london actually the same court that ruled foreign sat football illegal a couple of years ago until overruled by european court. it gets worse for sky becuase he also said quote
Lord Justice Kitchen said that ?the defendants who are continuing to trade must be entitled to carry on their business in a way which avoids infringement of [Premier League] copyright if they are able to do so?.
Furthermore, he said that clauses in Premier League TV contracts with national broadcasters that prohibit them from broadcasting Premier League games outside their own country?s borders may constitute ?a restriction on competition?.
so the next few weeks sky will go around pubs taking photos of the logo on the tv hoping to get lucky with a few prosecutions for breach of copyright but if the clarification on 24 feb goes against them in the above uncle rupey is t#ts upLast edited by ohno; 5 February, 2012, 22:15.Comment

Get rid of EPL logos.
The simplest way to get rid of the EPL logos is to change settings on TV to zoom 1 from 16-9. My local does this and he is logo free. It does not effect your viewing other than loseing the time and current score.Comment

How about Sky just competing with European providers to make it cheaper for pubs to offer Sky.I would love to know the ??? figures involved in the court case and these other measures Sky are implementing and for them to be offset against a reduction in the prices for pubs.gigablue quad
