Brilliant suggestion once again ramjet! Obviously my compass is broken because according to dishpointer I should be able to see pretty much everything from 52E to 131W. Of course most of these aren't reachable but there may be the odd obstacle in the way for the lower satellites that are reachable. For the best part mounting on the front wall of my house is pretty much perfect :-)
How do two STBs work with a multi LNB satallite?

Now, here's another question ramjet. Have only asked about a million so may as well continue!
Would I need some sort of mount extender for the dish or will the standard one do ok? The dish would have to turn to around 160 degrees roughly so not exactly sure how this would work. CheersComment

42 east to 45 west = 87 degrees and so I doubt you are swinging 160 degrees !!
a "standard" mount has an arm length which is slightly longer than the radius of your dish
the problem here is the word "standard" , as there is no "standard"
the mount has to be longer than the radius, so various mounts exist. if in doubt just use longer T-K brackets and a bit of scaffold poleComment

Muhhahahahah yeah sorry. I didn't do well at school
I'm still trying to work out how I came to that conclusion! Anyways I'll ask my installer when he comes. Told you I was a noob! LOLComment

Arrgghhh! I have everything now apart from the motor. The first one I ordered of the bay the seller contacted me next day to say they had no stock? Why the f*ck sell it in the first place then?! This really winds me up!
The second seller I tried I paid extra for next day delivery. 3 days later it still hasnt been marked as dispatched and they are ignoring my emails! Full of cowboys it is.
Anyway, is there a legit website I can buy motors from? Preferably Superior Dark Motor. Cheers!Comment

Almost done! Engineer is there now currently installing the dish although he said that he hasn't had much experience with motors. I've asked him to make absolutely certain that the dish is aligned correctly as I know this can cause major issues.
Once the dish and motor are installed and aligned correctly where should we point the dish? Should we point it directly south then use USALS on the box to do the rest or what is the easiest way to do this? Thanks!Comment

Can someone help me quickly please???
How exactly does the motor connect up to the two receiver boxes? There are two ports on the motor. One for the LNB I believe and the other goes to one receiver or am I wrong here?
Sorry for the noob questions guys. Thank you!Comment

correct
------------------Fave replies from various threads
1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

Thanks that certainly was quick :-). So how does it interact with the second box then or am I being silly? Also, to set up the receiver do we simply point the dish roughly south and set the latitude and longitude on the receiver and USALS does the rest? This bit somewhat confuses me. Cheers!Comment

the sticky threads should help here , like this one http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ed-dish-42881/Thanks that certainly was quick :-). but what I would do is put a channel list on the receiver, set it to usals and put in your longitude and latitude, and select bbc world news on thor
the motor will now travel to where it thinks thor should be from your location
now make sure you get thor and that actual channel by setting the motor to the latitude using its own built in etched markings and lock it up on that latitude too (and never alter this)
also check that there is no skew on the lnb, so on an undermounted cable it will hang straight down and not be turned either clockwise or anticlockwise at all
now moving the motor itself left or right, and the dish up or down on its alignment markings, locate that channel on thor
when found , lock it up and test other fta channels on thor like the music channel
if all is well, test fta channels from 42 east to say 30 west, or whatever you can manage, especially on 30w , 15w , 5w , 0.8w , 5e , 7e , 10e , 13e , 16e , 19e , 23.5e , 28.2e , 39e , 42e
if its a good signal and quality on fta channels across the whole range it appears the job has been done, but slight adjustments are usually necessary
any second box is either piggybacked off the first box, or you use a direct coax feed from the multi lnbLast edited by ramjet; 9 January, 2013, 12:10.Comment

Thanks again ramjet! Sorry, I only really got a chance to read this properly there now. I went home for lunch to see if I could successfully scan for channels and didn't really get anywhere. Couldn't get a signal from any satellite despite setting latitude and longitude correctly. My installer manually moved the dish to 28.2E and I am now able to pick S Uk channels, although obviously most are encrypted.
I had no time to search again but would it be possible to use USALS when locked on to 28.2E? Also, there appears to be only manual vertical adjustment on the motor. Is this correct?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm thinking I may need to get an experienced motorised dish installer out. This install cost me ?100 :-(Comment

you can use any satellite to do this task using usals, and with some maths you can also use diseqc v1.2 to do it although its more complicatedThanks again ramjet! an installer should know how to do this if accepting the job - or not get paid - period
a motor has an elevation scale that is up and down, so yes you set your elevation (or latitude) on that scale and lock it (I did explain this previously)
to go left and right you slacken the nuts on the U bolts holding the motor to the pole and move it left or right, obvious really
the dish is correctly aligned on the motor and tightened and never altered after this on the dish mount U bolts
the dish has an up and down offset elevation that is used to get onto the correct arc, but no left or right as the pole mounting U bolts do that which hold the motor in place
lastly, you are scanning for channels instead of doing what I told you to do, which was install a premade list and use that for lining it up
scanning for channels involves the motor to be setup correctly, so you dont employ scanning techniques when installing a motorised system, too many variables
I would ask you to carefully study replies if you wish to get this done properly , and dont keep taking shortcuts or deviating from the advice given
anybody can setup a dish to get one satellite, but getting all of them is more tricky, and you and your installer could have studied the sticky thread with the guide on it to achieve your goals
my advice was a quick synopsis of the more advanced guides and is how I setup a motorised system, and I never, never scan for channels when trying to setup a system, the up to date premade list means I never have to scan a box - periodComment

Yeah thanks ramjet. Sorry, I didn't realise scanning for channels would be a problem. When I get home this evening I'll follow exactly as you said. The dish is now elevated correctly hence being able to pick up 28.2E. I will do exactly as you say and download the latest channel list and go from there.
Failiing that I now have the number of an experienced motorised dish installer (which I didn't have before). I will ask him if he can come out and have a butchers if I have no success.
I'm sorry, I know it must be really frustrating for you when noobs don't listen. Its more of point of not fully understanding the situation rather than not listening. I've learned a hell of a lot in the past few weeks and I realise I still have a huge amount to learn so thanks for bearing with me.Comment

you can only scan for channels (if you must do so) when the satellite is accurately aligned, hence me telling you to use a premade channel list so that the channels are already in your box and leave you to concentrate on making sure you get the fta channels across the arc, not just on the one satellite like you get now
if you must scan (which you dont need to do) , you do so when you know the motor and box are working accurately and the premade list allows you to do this, and is probably better presented instead of your own higgledypiggeldy scanned in list with channels unsorted and all over the place
the point here is accuracy on each and every satellite your motor can "see"
accurate channel lists come later on when its working correctly
I use an old box or a spiderbox for dish alignment, irrespective of the final box being used which may be a different box altogether, a proper installer would use a proper alignment meter for this and then check with a box
you asked for help quickly, so I gave you a no-frills quick synopsis of what to do to get the job done, its normally much more involved than my synopsis
so at the moment you have 28.2e , you "may" get some other satellites, but I suspect your motor isnt tracking the arc correctly , meaning I dont think you will get much else from the sat list I mentionedComment
