I did think about it but think if I go up ladders one more weekend this summer I may find the misuus pulling then out from under me I also thought about swinging the big dish round a bit and picking up 0.8 as I don't need to go any higher than 23e

I should be sorted with a set up in a few days and I got to wondering, is it worth taking the 500GB drive from the Sly HD box and install it into the new machine or buy a caddy and run it as an external drive?

      Ta.

depends on the size or sizes of drive the new machine can accept

in simple terms, the sly boxes use 3.5 inch sata hdd drives, but many boxes only accept a laptop sized 2.5 inch sata hdd (like a solo2 for example)
the duo takes either size, no idea what sizes the tm twin takes internally

so the best option is to fit the drive internally, and depending what size it takes should determine your course of action

I would not bother using external hdd drives myself

I agree with ramjet of you can get it inside put it there. External works fine but I have ended up putting mine into a caddy that has a fan as external drives aren't really designed to run continuously. It took me 6 months to kill my first external that had no fan.

The TM-Twin is basically the same as the Duo it takes Both Hard Drive Sizes 3.5/2.5

Always best to stick it inside if the box allows for it.
