Look Guys I think what this Thread has proven is its your Money at the end of the Day and How you decide to spend it is totaly up to yourself.

You can go and buy a receiver that has little or no support and does not have dedicated sections on top notch websites like here on D.K you can do so.

You can Buy yourself a Clone Dreambox 800 HD instead of putting 20-30 pounds extra a buy an original Dreambox 500 HD.

You can Buy a Receiver that gives you a Free Gift and without any effort or knowledge & get yourself connected to a CardSharing server.

You can Buy any Receiver you like !

But when a Thread is started asking the question (dreambox-800hd-vs-spiderbox-9000hd) I for one will defend the Dreambox and the Applications desgined for it over the past 10 years.

And for anyone to stand up for a Spiderbox so ruthlessly as some of you guys doing, when its only a year- 16 months (or less) on the market is ridiculous.

And Ill finish by saying I am sure we will all be hitting head again over the next few years as more & more of these receivers get released onto the market, seeing as none of the big encryptions are ever likely to be opened / hacked.

Just buy what you what its your money ! But if its not supported on here then dont ask about it ! nor expect top notch support from all of us long term members.

Spiderbox will slip into the IP receivers section and dissapear along with all the others ip receivers that came before, with little or no future support over the coming years.

i have never bought any receiver that came any other way
from what iv'e read if you load a non gift patch
and select [sw/data update all] to load it on the receiver
this will clear the gift patch this is why they say write down
the serial number and key number to get the gift back if you
make a mistake when loading any new patches

hi ok mate my only concern is im quite prepared to do a s/w + data patch non gift but can any one guarentee that i will be able to then use the new patch with the newcamd server side of the box, without the neuxostream rubbish coming back. oh by the way checked that part during footy yesterday glitching and freezing all way through no its not my internet or router but i guess you can blame a bad server this time

any how because without that facility and the current cccam problems the box might as well be soley a fta reciever

i guess the only one who could answer fully has now stupidly got himself a ban from here

great response. no need for some of the aggro seen in the other posts. every stb wld have a plus and minus. the customers need would dictate what stb he buys.its a matter of choice (and cash)

these type of threads will always pop up now and then whatever recievers are out at the time, people who are new to the satellite scene who nothing about what certain stb,s what they can do . so newbies will always will want to compare different stb,s against one another or even expert.
asking what channels they can get for free , if it is a sd or hd or pvr, twin tuners, or just an fta/freesat reciever.
people will give there opinions some may they prefere dreambox or technomate or what ever reciever it is.
some people look at this as a hobby , some just want to plug it in an watch tv.
no box is 100% perfect it,s all a learning curve tweaking and getting the best out of it.

Having read this thread now and being brand new to the satellite game i realise that the spiderbox vs dreambox conundrum ive been toying with has now been answered. With the general knowledge on the forum it seems that there is only one choice as there is a lot more help available from the members regarding the dreambox which far outweighs cost IMHO.

The only questions it has left me asking is when i finally commit to the dreambox, which FTA channels are actually available through this system? Im currently being robbed blind by sky and what with my current financial status cannot afford to keep shelling out nearly ?60 a month for this luxury for channels i very rarely view and am generally watching whatever rugby union that is aired worldwide first and foremost follwed by boxing, mma, football and just about any other sport and the odd movie.

Can someone please shed some light or at least point me in the right direction for finding out this information aswell as any other piece of kit i may require to receive these?

If its of any help to those in the know on here i am considering buying a 1m motorised dish and the dreambox 800hd.

Hope i'm not adding any fuel to any fire here!!!!

            Many thanks in advance

I think you have made the right decision to buy a Dreambox...If i could afford it, i would get a DM8000, but money is tight and my family needs comes before any hobby.
My Dreambox DM500s is great to mess about with, but its not as stable as my TM600....The Spiderbox we have is very good as a HD receiver, ideal for the family to use....All the 3 boxes we have were purchased on a budget.....I paid ?55 for the Dreambox, ?85 for the TM600 and ?155 for the HD7000. So altogether its only cost ?240 to kit out the whole house.....Thats less than getting a original DM800.
