Yes It works also for Skybox A3
Try to get a with builtin r232 port or buy a good quality usb to seriel adapter. Cheap adapters "do not" work at all

Box does not respond or displays On or rebooting constantly ?
If your box does not respond, or no displays light there is a good chance the current firmware on the box is somehow corrupt.

You will need to use , connect a Serial RS232 Null Modem Cable to the box and follow the instructions.
Hopefully it will bring your box back to life.

instructions

Download or if have older Openbox/Skybox
Unzip this file

1. Connect up your PC to the Openbox
using a null modem serial cable.
2. Switch the box OFF
3. Run EromUpgrade.exe (Located in folder you have downloaded and unzipped) then check the
com port setting is correct
4. Select the latest firmware .abs file. (Download her if you don't have any)
5. Select "next" then switch ON the box
and follow the instructions to load
and flash burn the firmware.
6. If the process does not start, try
various time combinations of switching
the box ON after selecting "next"
(IF it comes with set STB memory error please run config.bat file (Located in folder you have downloaded and unzipped) ) before running loader
7. Don't switch the power off or disconnect
while the download & flash is taking place.

If you cannot contact to your box check your null modem cable. Connections are like showen below

pin 2 ...to... pin 3
pin 3 ...to... pin 2
pin 4 ...to... pin 6
pin 5 ...to... pin 5
pin 6 ...to... pin 4
pin 7 ...to... pin 8
pin 8 ...to... pin 7

Important: Go into device manager
<right click MyComputer--->manage--->on the left side u find device manager

and check that you are choosing the right com port. If possible use computer with serial R232 com port built on mainbord.

Have fun

Just a quick update on my earlier comment......

In the end, I went to my parents house which I have my very old Dell PC, which took me about a hour to find all leads etc to put back together...

Plugged my null modem into my Openbox, and into the rs232 port in the back of the PC..... Ran EromUpgrade, did the usual steps as stated above... And........... Done!!

Thank f***

I then put in my xxxxx, and was promted to reboot. I turned off the box, and ever since it has been stuck on LOAD.

I have read thousands of posts, on hundreds of sites and having no luck what so ever.

I am connecting my Openbox to my laptop using a USB to RS232 and a null modem.

These are the steps I am taking and what is happening. Any help would be GRATEFULLY appreciated:

I am connecting my laptop to my Openbox via a null modem and a usb to RS232.

Switching the box off (Which is still showing LOAD on the display) by unplugging the mains power lead, as this is the only way I am able to turn off.
Running the config.bat file (As directed if previously receiving the STB Memory error)
Then running the EromUpgrade.exe file.
Selecting the correct COM port, and uploading the latest .abs file, ticking the box for "include bootloader" and clicking next
Then, I'm re-entering the mains power lead to the Openbox (As indicated to switch the box back on) but the display is blank.
It is then saying "Synchronizing STBs" "Please reset target" This is the case until I am then again, unplugging the mains power lead in which at the side of this promt, it is stating "Done"
After 5 or so seconds, It says "Set STB memory error, click back to try again"

And this is as far as I have got. For days. Any help on this again, would be GRATEFULLY appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.
You may wish to try different loaders. I've not managed to resurrect my dead box but others have had success with trying different loaders. If you go back a few pages then you may find links to these.
