      Openbox scart works fine.
Why put it thru Markus when it's got its own HDMI ?

I just googled the Markus and saw that it was a media player and I thought maybe you could link the openbox through it. Obviously not

First of guys I have sorted the HDMI issue.
I went and bought some more HDMI cables.

I was in T.K Max and came across a pack of 2 Xtreme 1.8 metre HDMI cables. They advertise as 100% 1080p output, solder free, oxygen free copper, ultra high speed, 24k gold plated etc etc etc.

They actually look the business so I thought I would get them to try as they were only a ?10 and lo and behold they work perfectly.Cracking picture. much better than component.

                Happy bunny now

                Hope this helps someone

I'm now wishing I'd waited until I had the money for a VU+ Duo.

My HDMI cable arrived yesterday. I arrived home, eager to connect up and marvel at the HD-iness of it in all it's glorious splendour. All I got was a black screen.

My Panasonic TX-32LZD85 knows that something is connected and switches to the HDMI1 input when I turn on the receiver. But alas, no picture or sound.

I got a 22" HD LCD from upstairs and plugged it in. It worked fine... no worries at all. But what good is that to me?

After reading post #337, I thought that maybe it was possible that the HDMI cable wasn't up to scratch. But according to the tech spec from the Amazon page, it should be good enough.

                          • HDMI Rev 1.3 Category 2 cable (High-Speed); Support single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbit/s)
                          • 30AWG Oxygen-Free Copper Wire; Fully Shielded Cable for maximum rejection of RFI & EMI; Double Layer PVC for Heatproof
                          • 24K Gold Plated Die-cast Metal HDMI type A connectors
                          • Supports 1080p HD, Deep Color, HDCP
                          • 5 Year Warranty, 100% Money Back Guarantee if you are not happy

I suspect the real problem here is the Panasonic TV. The HDMI handshake is as flakey as a dandruff ridden leper. Historically I've had problems connecting my PC to it using a DVI/HDMI cable where the TV seems to randomly select which HDMI port it wants me to plug into. And I already know that it doesn't like the AC3 audio output from the Openbox. I've emailed Panasonic tech support to see if they can send me any firmware to update from SD or similar.

I wonder if it's worth contacting the Openbox manufacturers.... does anyone have the contact details?

So at this moment in time I'm now left with an HD receiver that I can only connect to my main TV via SCART, and which the TV doesn't like the AC3 audio for, resulting in crackling on high output levels. I can always remedy this by switching to a different audio channel, but the fact remains that this isn't what I wanted the receiver for. I wish I'd waited a month and upgraded to a VU+, or just bought one with my credit card.

I would still consider trying another cable before anything else. I am lending mine to a mate for testing and when we se it up ealier on his HDMI the picture had Red lines thru it. He has a DM800 that never had an issue on his cable. We swapped for my HDMI cable and all was fine.

Can you beg ,borrow or Steal one from somewhere? Also has your Panny not got component input? much better than scart.
