Almost all other Linux recievers including VU Solo/Duo, ET9000, TM etc etc...are only able to offer lower prices because they are in effect Dreambox clones.
Dream Multimedia hardware products are highly overpriced I agree..but the price you pay is not for the hardware...
Dream pay for the software to be devleped Enigma 1, Enigma 2, they pay Broadcom to devleop the drivers , they pay the devleopment teams to make the software images.
Why do you think almost all other manufacturers of Linux boxes, use the same or similar Broadcom CPU and chipsets as Dream ?? Because all the hard work is already done for them...they dont have to pay for drivers to be written, code bases etc.. They just use modifed Enigma/Enigma 2 Dreambox images.
So in effect theyre clones as well....but they dont pay the software development fees...Without Dream, there would be no Linux Reciver scene...They are the Top Dogs, everone else is just wannabes...
Thats the facts of the matter, I dont personally own any originals, the prices are too high,I have owned Dm500C, Dm500s, Dm600, Dm800HD non pro and Pro version clones. All of them have been very reliable, the only issue I had was on the 800HD non pro, the tuner was an old revision, replaced with a Rev M to fix.
Clones are most defintitely not "dodgy", they are great pieces of kit, nothing comes close for the same price of a clone.
The only people who seem to bad mouth clones, are those with vested interests...They are either sellers of hardware from other manufacturers, fanboys of certain brands, beta testers of other hardware etc...
You can see around many forums...that theres lots of happy clone owners....
