looking at the piccy I guess you could put something like a old northbridge pc motherboard fan straight onto the heatsing (only guessing as don't know sizes) should be slim enough to fit in.
Tempted to get one of these as the modding sounds as much fun as the using

The older versions of the cloud ibox did have a fan there, but were too noisy. also, seen a few pics where the actual case is a bit larger.

      they really shrunk things down.

Here's an idea, turn the box upside down and open the card slot cover. Heat rises after all

Yea, was going to try that, but worried about dust and other stuff falling in over time. Best thing would be to get some sort of fan setup that will extract the hot air out.

The HDMI and ethernet did look upside down anyway! Only thing to change then, for those who can't read upside down is the label on the front. I'm sure it pretty much should just peel off.

actually thinking about it, I think it probably loses (expells) more heat the way it is. Putting the 'top' in contact with the shelf/cabinet would only radiate heat back on to the 'top' (bottom). way round this problem would be to have some of glass/plastic heat legs/feet you get for certain laptops or just something to raise it above the shelf by a few centimers/inches. That way, turning it upside down might help.

Having removed the bottom and allowing it to overhang the shelf it's on, while atill remaining secure (so it wont fall), it does seem to be running cooler than before.

After using it a bit longer I can say, the box I have has serious issues which result in freezing picture once box gets hot. For this reason would not recommend the box at all.

I may have a bad one, but it definately freezes after prolonged use and getting hot. So without further cooling not really worth buying.

If you're going to get a clone you might as well get one that works. There are plenty out there that do, and for ?20 more than this.

well like i said, might just be my setup. havn't really played with it on a constant long term basis. Plus my setup is in a quite restricted area which doesn't have enough ventalation.

Also, I can't be certain it is the heat causing the freezing as it could be a whole host of factors, based on image to HDMI switches and daisy chaining I've got. Basically it's not ideal to test, especially if the testing is done with big gaps and little monitoring.

What we need is someone to constantly use the box and then give people some informed feedback. I don't really have the time to test the box over a long period so have made my mind up on a few bursts of usage.

EDIT: Also checked the bottom of an F5 and it was only slightly cooler than the top of the icloud box in my setup. So may still be worth a look.

yea think with a usb fan cooler could help the heating, how many usb ports are on the box?

I've got one of these. I have been standing it on its side with the USB slots facing up. I have been using a wifi adaptor and the Remote Stream Converter plugin with good results streaming bouquets from another Vu (Duo) clone box.
Have tried a number of images and think the recent openAAF has been most stable/functional for me.
Mine has the heat sink attached and can use the images containing the latest drivers.
Have not experienced freezes that I believe are unrelated to network issues.

I've ordered 8x skybox from this seller and a duo that the seller claims is an original so when I get it ill let you know if it is.

                        .
Took delivery of the 8x skyboxes and duo.
All well packed. Skyboxes came with the very latest firmware too. The latest firmware has the cams hidden so just hit 6666 on the menu and they appear.

As for the duo its a clone and with the usual characteristics of the lcd screen not lined up right etc. Its also a V3. will do the job.

2nd purchase from this seller now.

Ok I've had my cloud box for a few days and tried various things with it so far this is what I have found. It doesn't work properly with newer images with blackhole being the possible exception, box appears to be fine then just locks up. But with vix 2.3 it is stable as it definately is with blackhole media tree, been running since 9am without a freeze or a lockup all day. I have taken the card reader off of mine and installed a fan straight on tho the heatsink drawing away from the heatsink, I don't know if blowing at will have any better results but this works for me. The box also sits upside down to allow better air flow and is cool to the touch even after 14 hours. Just to say it doesn't bother me what it looks like my boxes sit in a cubby hole behind my fireplace so I don't see them. So for me everything is working well, everything I have tried with it so far pluggins, streaming, 1channel etc works exactly the same as they have with any other vix'ed image box I have had but I will keep this up to date.

I would be looking to do something like that. Can you notice it expelling the hot air?

Also, Do you think I could get the IR sensor working a bit better by making some modifications to the front?

I will definately need to try vix 2.3, your setup sounds good, that's exactly what I'd want with one of these type of receivers, if only the damn thing ran cooler straight from the factory.

Well from what I have seen the boxes used to come with a fan on them but apparently they where noisy (cheap) that fan is a fractal 50mm x 10mm costs about a fiver although given the option I would have went for a 40mm I just happened to have that one. Yes it does expel hot air I can touch the heatsink without getting burned but if I turn it off I cant it's roasting. Today I have been running it right way up but bottom still off and although it is a bit warmer it has still not locked up or freezing. Just for the record I have the fan screwed lightly on to the heatsink, the design of the fins allows it to grip a screw just don't try to over tighten. As for the IR sensor I have no problems with mine, it is quite easy to just poke your fingers in and move it make sure it's correctly centred in it's window.

the supplier I got it from confirmed the older model did use to have a fan and was also slightly wider case. But was very noisy apparently.

I've mentioned the heat, and the agent I've been speaking to has said they will speak with their factory to have more ventalation holes put it. Not sure if anything would really come from it or not. Anyone interested in the chinese supplier I used can PM me, I found them on alibaba where there are boat loads on sale. Cost for 1 = ?75 delivered express within 4 days. cost for 5 = ?57 (3-4 days delivery via DHL) give or take based on currency rate.

I think I might try the 40mm fan on top the heatsink and then have the box turned on its side with the USB slots at the top.
