Howdy all - Could do with idiots guide to Technomate 5400 CI+ USB super

Had a new dish installed with a Technomate 5400 CI+ USB Super box because we needed Spanish TV and SkyRTVE cancelled the TVE channel that was available on Sky and we needed a way of gaining access.

The engineer who installed the kit showed me how to find the TVE chanel on the hotbird satellite...but not much else. I've read a lot of the posts on this forum but my questions are more fundamental as I've really no idea what i've bought into - apart from the Spanish channel.

I've cancelled my sky subscription and want to see what the Technomate box can do - like finding sky channels for example.

I read about installing patches etc but really don't know why this is needed...what's the benefits of installing patches/software? I can see loads of foreign channels and have managed to find channels on other satellites other than hotbird but there's simply too many.

Can I pick up Sky Sports channels using this box? Can I pick up Nick Jnr for example (my kids watch thiat one all the time)!

I don't know what dish he installed either...it's much bigger than the sky dish on my wall! When he set it all up he didn't tell me about motorised setting or USALs...just how to access RTVE.

So if there's anyone out there who can give me a idiots guide to the benefits of the technomate 5400 and tell me what I need to do to make the most out of my new toy that would be monumentally useful - thanks in advance

Is your dish motorised? If not you can only view a fta channels on 13e. You can access the Sky fta channels on 28.3e if you have a motorised dish. If motorised youc an patch the reeiver to open the Digi tv package on 1 west. But this all only available if you have a motorised dish.

Many thanks for all the responses so far (feel like I've just gained a load of new mates actually)

Anyway, I'm ashamed to ask this question but here goes - how do I know if I've got a motorised dish?. It's got a technomate universal single LNB s/n TM108 07036280 if that helps?

cause you can move to any of the sattelites,at the moment you are fixed on one.

I know its very confusing but youll learn mate.

Cheers OldBloke...any idea where to buy and which model of motor?

And until I get round to buying and installing a motor am I restricted to the hotbird satellite only? Or can I still find others that could possibly help me find sports/kids channels now?

                        PS: Thanks in advance

at the moment you are stuck with the one its pointing at.
I didnt know a thing when I got mine,it came in a box and I had to build it and put it up myself, had a bit of trouble HAHAHA to say the least but you learn as you go along.
My full system cost less than 220 quid .
I would definately advise the same set up as me for a begginer..Im thinking of upgrading my reciever to something a bit more advanced but to start with and learn this box is fantastic.
You can get a motor cheap enough if you look about mate...then do it yourself, its better cause you learn that way.
