ok, again I say a big thanks guys to you all
The old guy that's going to be replacing the capacitor and regulator on mines, he isn't it anything techy such as these things, I don't know him personally but a friend does and I only got to speak to him on the phone, he told me straight he isn't into anything techy like Tv boxes etc although he did say that the job/jobs shouldn't be a problem at all, BUT, and this is a big but and why I asked the questions and put the photo's in my last post.
He probably doesn't even have an HD cable or sat feed or anything at his house, he sounds to me as if he is still just sitting with an old back n white tv
and I aint kidding, So that's why I asked you all ""would he be able to test the box simply with just replacing the capacitor & the regulator and then plug the power cable in and turn on the power switch at the back (with the hard drive disconnected as I can do that before I give it to him anyway), would he be able to simply test the box is working with only having the Box and the power cable, replace the capacitor & the regulator then power it back up and if its then working ok it will show some sort of display on the digital display ?"" Will it and can he ?
That's the main question .
The other thing I mentioned was, I marked out what I presume is the regulator that is worth replacing while he is at it too, but no one has said if that's the correct regulator I have marked out, is it ? It is in the photos, have a look yourselves n see, it looks like it to me as its got the number mentioned next to it (U801) on the motherboard as stated in the link that digicon posted, is the one I have marked out in the photos defo the correct one please ?
I am just desperate to know the answer to all these questions so that I can then simply order those parts and tell the old guy how he tests it etc as he will be doing it in his house, I wont even meet him, someone will be dropping the box off at his house for me, as I say, I don't know the old guy personally, so he needs to know whats what if you know what I mean ? and the more exact details I can tell him the better and easier it is for him too, plus he will only charge me about 10 or 20pounds for doing the job too, so he's good to know, but I need to be able to provide him with all the info I can as he wont have a clue how to test the box apart from soldering in the new parts, see what I mean now ?
Cheers again guys, thanks, you'z have been very helpful, appreciate it
