So its likely to be cap and not PSU?
Normally happy to give soldering a go - but reluctant as this did not fix my previous clone with same issue.
So interested to so how this guy Saltire is using does.
    Any news??
Well, so far the guy on ebay that had the advert for fixing the problem, so far I keep messaging him as last week he told me just to give him a shout when I was ready to send the box and then he would re-activate the advert on ebay.

But, I got the box all packed up etc and ready to go at the weekend there, contacted him a few times and he replied and said that he was pretty busy just now and told me just to leave it just now etc.

Since then I have messaged him a few times and he wont even reply now, so I'm stuck now man !!!

As its difficult to get hold of the 220uf 16v cap, is it best practice to up the voltage or the capacitance. So for instance i can get a 220uf 25v cap, or a 330uf 16v cap. Which is safest higher voltage rating or capacitance. This assuming i get the soldering iron out.

      Ta.

A slightly higher capacitance and voltage has been used in most cases and has worked for most usually a good branded one is best. Some get away with C807 replacement and some even with regulator replacement. Although it could be psu problem as well as front board as well and some I haven't read about. But to say fix and give 2 yr guarantee is fanciful as the box could break down with any other fault how would you know what fault it had? The box is hard to get a 2 yr guarantee when it's a new unit.

Sorry mate, but by "they", who do you mean. Lavatronics, the guy selling the bits (cap and regulator), or someone else..
              Cheers

Yes, have come across Red Apple. Nearly bought from them, but then took the UK option with Lavatronics. Before i take the soldering iron out, does anyone know what chance i have of getting a fix or replacement from them. The Duo was bought in July 2012 from them, but it looks like they no longer stock Vu+ products.

Edit. Sorry Benny, just read your post properly. So i assume you are referring to WOS when you say 2yr warranty?

There grey market imports then as there is only one person who can legally import Vu+ products into the uk for some odd reason.

not yet for me mate, I now have a guy to send it too though that I have spoke to on the phone etc and his friend seems to be totally into all the very Intricate electronics and soldering etc, so as soon as I feel a little better (been unwell), hopefully the next day or two I shall get the box sent away etc, cant mention any names or anything though as I treat peoples privacy with the greatest of respect unless they want to mention things themselves etc.

I will keep you guys posted on what happens though
