i still have no response from box apart from green power light coming on
is that boot file file suitable for 500c nxp tuner?
i dont get no response in hyperterminal neither when powering up
is it lookin like a bin job on this 1
is the bootloader totally screwed?

Remove the jtag end from the pc lpt port (you dont have to remove the wires from the board) turn box off then on again does the green light come on then? if it does you should be able to use dreamup to flash it.

my equipment works fine with another dreambox
can see it boot up in hyperterminal as well
so my equipment is ok
but on the dodgy box i get nothing just power light .. thats why i wondered if i could tranfer settings (bootloader) off the working box .. to get this box running

Try what omar suggests in post 30 and 34 see if it connects then
also have you tried the bootloader in post 48

i have tried omars suggestions already still no joy
and the philips bootloader in post 48 i cannot get onto box as stated in previous posts
i rename the that file to blimg replace existing blimg file ,use jtag win and write !!! straight away box pops up saying "finished"
but on working scren it says "could not load flash.bin"

think this bootloaders really naffed
and my missus is screamin at me for ignorin her

sorry for buttin on but while were on the subject of jtagging i recently bought one for my dm500c and am i right in saying this is correct for the colours ? ;-
WHITE = 1
YELLOW = 3
GREEN = 7
BLUE = 9
RED = 11
BLACK = 16
jusr so i know if i get any errors i at least know its soldered in correctly.

can anyone help me on the subject ,,,i got "dreamflash for windows v0.1" and i can connect to my dm500c.im using the blimg for a 500c someoone kindly gave to me but when i hit the write button it get's to between 5% and no more than 15% and then the program just shut's down and turns off.what am i doing wrong ?.

i think the colour of the cables depends on where you bought the jtag they are they right colours for my jtag and i got it from tailormadecircuits


also my dm500 was doing the same thing getting to a certain percentage then crashing but eventually it would be 100% complete but i still cant get dreamup to send new image

mine was from tailor made as well.i've tried 100's of times and 15% is the best i can do.is there another windows based prog i can use other than dreamflash v0.1 ?.as far as i can see ive got a NXP tuner in my DM500c box and this is the problem.
has anyone got specific boot files for this particular driver ?.DOS based or windows.

i see im not alone in getting this bugger to communicate ..
i do have another dreambox 500c with nxp tuner thats working correctly ! does anyone know how i can get the information of the working one to fix the duff one!! helping my fellow strugglers along the way!

someone on another forum had this same prob and another member posted a blimg for a NXP tuner but i dont have privilages so i cant download them.it seems there are fixes for them out there.

well after endless trying i managed to bring my 500c with a "NXP tuner" back to life via JTAGing.
here's how i did it be it right or wrong it worked ;-

i used jtagwin5xxx and put the "boot500c" blimg file thats knocking around in the forum (search for it) into jtagwin5xxx folder.
i then downloaded "dm500mac_generator_v2".
i then made a file and selected "cabel tuner" on the left.
i used the MAC address written on the side of the cardboard dreambox box it came in.
i entered these numbers and made a file using dm500mac_generator_v2.

now right or wrong i then copied this MAC .bin i made into the "jtagwin5xxx" folder and renamed it blimg.
it wont copy over the "boot500c" file as this a "file" extension and the blimg you made is a ".bin" extension.

now you should have both blimg images in the jtagwin5xxx folder.someone will correct me and say i only need ..................... but like i keep saying it worked.
i then asked jtagwin5xxx to connect and a split second later power up your 500c with NXP tuner.i then selected write and it went the whole 100%.

i disconnected the printer port jtag from the pc (i didnt need to unsolder it from 500c box ) and flashed as normal with dreamup and low and behold the service searching magically reappeared and allowed me to scan for channels.

i hope this works for those in the same boat who cant see the tuner so hence cant scan.

your probaly right micromouse , but i worded it just as it worked for me and hopefully others especially sparktikus.just like myself , he will be as bald as a coot trying to reflash the boot loader.
