How to JTAG a DM500

Can`t find the wright delay time.
Using a Intel Pentium Pro 1600MHZ.

How long do i have to wait after connecting the Dreambox to start the Programm?

There is no set waiting time, the delay time varies, you need to experiment on your own setup. (If all your connections and wiring is ok that is) Read the Instructions text in the 'How to Jtag DM500' in the Downloads section.

My DM500 was unsuccessfully flashed via lan...

Now i jtag it via LPT jtag cable, successfully.
But, i can't flash new firmware. DreamUp detects DM500 and says "initiating flash-loader upload" and freezes...
What i have to do now?

I presume you are using Null modem cable for this first flash transfer? (this is a must after jtag)
A few things to try, another version of dreamup and make sure to (untick) network connection box in dreamup or it will be looking for a Network/Lan connection instead of a Com port rs232 connection.
Finally try another Null modem cable and a different PC.

Yes, i'm using null modem cable, after jtag programmed new bootblock.
Network couldn't be used because DB firmware was damaged before by unsuccessfull firmware flash.
But, now i flashed it!
(Don't know what reason i couldn't flash DB.
Tryed programm by jtagdb few times - no result - DreamUp hangs on initiate flash.)
First i run jtagdb500.exe with -X parameter (to erase flash), and after erasing run jtagdb500 do write new bootblock.
After erasing and new bootblock programming i flashed DB500 by DreamUp and null-modem cable without any problem.
Now it works

so I decided to write my experience for those who are patient and eager to know new things . if you are not, its better to buy another box instead wasting your priceless time on a breaked clone box

Did you look in our downloads/dreambox section? ? there is a very good jtag guide already in there which you could have used to save all your troubles, but i'm sure your detailed steps will be helpfull to others.

Th pins 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 e 25 of the port LPT must be shunted between themselves.
the software is attached
first you connect the cable betwen dm and lpt port then power up the dm
then open a dos windows and execute the soft and enjoy
tested by me and work 100%
the soft name is jtagdm500 so you unzip the folder in c and open dos windows
c:\cd jtagdm500
c:\jtagdm500>jtagdm500 -m dm500 -i
you have some thing like this

Hi All,

I managed with the great help of this forum to bring back to life a dead 500-s with JS intel chip by using the dos program jtagdm500.... Now i have another dm500-s with a TE intel chip and by reading the thread i understand that i need to use the WIndow file. Unfortunately does not want to connect, even with my old P3 - 500 mhz slow computer.. what incredible is that the light is green but wont connect to dream up several diff versions. the cable is ok because with other 500-s will connect immediately... Now my jtag lead is the one with the resistor connected to the lpt... there is no LS245 IC as in jtag.jpg in guide "how to jtag your dm500"... it is this my problem?

Using the dos version goes to "erase flash done" and then nothing...

Please help

In photo attached there is the other dm500-s that i managed to flash but has a weak tuner as in the sat find cannot get more than 35 to 50%... where is the tuner and what can i do to reach 80% please ?

i just managed by using the windows program and running the antivirus.... i noticed that the delay was a bit longer although fast at 1 sec... managed to connect and write it... now dreamup is connected and flashing the corect image....

moral of the story a 500 mhz computer it is too fast you need something very slow!!!!!!!!

Please help me with the one with weak tuner... THANKS


Damn it! the one i just flashed start now OK with the initial GP blue screen but is black & white then a bit of grey noise then a completely black screen... front light dead and cannot ping the image known IP address.. What did it happen? please look at picture attached with tuner metallic shielded from japan. Please help

After jtag why not try flashing a different image instead of a Gemini one with dreamup, there are better images. Never seen a DM500S without a visual (tin box) type tuner so don't think there will be much you can do to improve its strength. Are you sure you are lined /set up to the Sat correctly with the weak tuner box?? and your cabling is good??
