Normal or timer recording and which image r u using? Try the below image and see if the recording still have freezing issue. After flashing the image, change the recording path to point to yr hdd and ftp yr keys & scce files and restart softcam. I have include tsonline tv, nstream player, tspanel 6.9, and sgsh bouquet updater plugin and u can delete it if u don't need it. Channels and picons are updated and have an option in auto language selection to have english and chinese epg modified enigma2 by i1646tvk84423.

What images have u tried so far?Comment

I have tried this openPli and the SG Newgnima so far.
I usually have recordings on timer and that's where it freezes. The dreambox system time is always accurate. After it hangs, i need to power down and reboot. The mobie recording done just before the hang is fine and can be played.
I also tried watching the same channel as what is recording on the timer to see what really happens. Just before the hanging, the CPU load goes up, the image freezes but the sound continues for like 10-15seconds more and then it hangs. Frozen image still displayed, no sound, remote control not responsive and need to reboot.
I need to try recording without timer to see if this hangs too but i think it kinda defeat the purpose of the featureComment

i think it could be due to bad sectors on hdd during recordings.
we were going through the occasional stoppages with recording; be it timer, fta, fta hd, other channels...we will delete away the failed recordings, and the same bad sector is reuse again maybe not the next but it does happened again. my wife then decided to keep one of the failed recording without deleting and since then, the recordings are behaving well the past few days. let's see if it resolved the problem.

Hi fellow kaosee's...
My situation was: recording (timed and instant) problems intermittently. Then last few weeks, NONE of the recordings were working at all. When they work, I can record the entire 2+ hour show. When they don't, the symptoms are always... record for 30-45 minutes and froze. Only a power off/on can bring the box back to live.
Here's the funny thing, the recording freeze happens over the network where my DM800se (FE: 100MBps) dumps/reads the media files onto my NAS (on GE: 1GBps). I have not had problem playing 7GB video files and doing file transfers concurrently, yet the recording just freezes like clockworks - 30 to 45 minutes into recording, freeze! Same thing happens when I stream it to my PC and record using VLC!!!
Anyway, here are some stats:
My box: DM800se
Image: SG-Cnigma2-SSL-84b - Download - 4shared - CS P67
Frontprozessor Version: V3
Webinterface Version: 1.6.8
Just take note that I have only been able to try successfully recording on 8GB SDHC, as my portable HDD is used for something else.
After few couple days checking and testing (and corrupting my box image few times by turning on/off too many times), here's how I got the recording working for me consistently so far. Hope this helps.
And, be warned that this image is the only one I tested working on my box, image was courtesy of YPVS125 (if interested, click on my name to find out my agony of using other images). So DO NOT follow blindly.
1. Format in PC as NTFS (not others).
2. Reboot STB
3. Insert SD to STB
4. Menu on screen-> TSPanel-> Device Manage (I have Blue Panel on screen with formatting options but BP don't work)
5. Press yellow button to select Initialise -> 1 Partition -> EXT3
6. After initialising, system prompts to reboot STB in order for storage device to be mounted as hdd/media (or is it media/hdd)...
7. Select Yes -> reboot
After reboot
8. TSPanel->Device Manager
9. Press red button to select "Mount". You should see "P. 1 - Linux (fixed:media/hdd)"
10. Press yellow button to select "format". If OK, screen should prompt "format terminated with success"
Reboot STB
11. Menu on screen -> System-> setup -> storage. You should see "please initialise...." in the highlighted storage device.
12. Press OK on Remote Control to select the storage device on screen
13. Screen should show 3 options to mount auto, manual or do nothing.
14. Select to mount as you prefer (I use auto), save, click on OK when screen shows "use these settings".
15. Goto Setup -> System -> recording path and add accordingly.
That's about it.
I tested with timed recording, instant recording over a period of 1 week (only thing I gotta do is clear out the recordings constantly since I only have 8GB). No freeze so far, so hopefully it's the recording over LAN that's the problem.
Have fun.

How I solved the recording over LAN is to download mgcamd 1.35/1.38 from TSpanel, after that download the binary for mgcamd 1.31 (just goodle it) and manually replace the mgcamd 1.31 binary to the bin folder, so far it running 24/7 for 2 months without single issue.Comment

Bad news!
Last weekend I got a new Seagate GoFlex to replace the SD. The recording started acting up again. Replaced the HDD with my old SD card, recording no longer works properly.
Then I tried Stanleywoon's method above. Same problem.
So now I am back to problematic recording again.
