If it identifies it then you need to click flash. Browse to the file you want to load to it then it will flash it to the box.

you dont say what box you have (this info helps as you may have alternatives ) all being well (when using dreamup) dreamup will recognise your box (example it will say dm500 etc) and all being well the log box will say power up /plug in your box . if dreamup doesnt say now power up your box i assume your using a usb to serial adaptor which is very problematic.

when you plug the box does it say anything in the log box ? ,i think your problem is the usb adaptor (its hard if not impossible to get them to work with windows vista ) try and get the use of an old desktop computer and connect the box to it using just the null modem cable .

you could also try flashing the box via telnet (have a look at this thread )

If, for any reason, your box won't boot, you will have to use Dreamup to flash an image instead of Flash Wizard Pro or any other method. You won't be able to connect via ethernet so no ip address is required. It may be that the process simply hung up during flashing or you accidentally pulled the plug half way through (yes it did happen to me). This will get you back on track.

                    Required
                    • Null Modem Cable (this is NOT the same as a serial or rs232 cable, although it looks the same)
                    • Image File (.img) or a (.nfi) file
                    • DreamUp Program

                    Instructions
                    • Disconnect all cables from your dreambox, including the power
                    • Connect the null modem cable to the dreambox and to your PC
                    • Load Dreamup.exe
                    • Click Connect and you will see a message like this

                    • Connect the power and the bootloader should be copied to the box
                    • The message should now say 'Box attached and Ready'
                    • Click Flash on the right hand side and select the image to be flashed

                    • Click Yes or Ya (depending on the version)

Note: If you're flashing a backup image, select NO.
                    • The image should then be uploaded to the box
                    • There will be a countdown timer at the bottom of the program

                    • After the image is uploaded, it will be flashed to memory
                    • The finished process should look like this:

                    • Click OK and close down Dreamup
                    • Power off the dreambox for 30 seconds then power up
                    • If any errors appear, check all cables are connected properly and repeat the process but do not use the PC while it's running

                    Good Luck!

Killed my dm500 after upload of image

                      Hi Guys.

First of all I?m a complete newbie writing this post for two reason first any quick guidance but mainly to allow me to download what I think may be a valid solution to my problem; a jtag. Any advice is very welcome, I don?t want to come across lazy as I am determined to find a solution on my own if need be and perhaps this jtag download guide may well be the solution.

                      Problem
I have basically killed my box (dm500) via flashwizard6.3 and uploading an image which locked up at 84%. The box now is not responsive via remote or in terms of what it puts out on the tv which is a black screen. If unplugged and plugged back in the green light of front of box will illuminate for about 5 mins before going out completely. I basically cannot now install an image via the network method as the box has no identify (ip etc)

                      what I have tried
I have tried various versions of dream up to no avail using the usb/null cable method the consistent statement coming from all versions is ?connection prepared, now switch on the dreambox!? I power up the dm500 and nothing happens.
                      Many thanks

Use an old PC or laptop with rs-232 port. Use null-modem
cable ONLY. Use Dream-up 1.3.2.1 & image should flash to
box alright. USB-rs232 cables are very problematic with Dream-up software. Some will work, but most won't & you must have precise drivers to enable USB-rs232 cable to function properly with Dream-up software. If 1.3.2.1 does not
work try 1.3.2.4 or others. J-tag can be very daunting & does not always solve the problem

                            Must be a NULL-MODEM cable(2 wires are crossed-over)
rs232-serial cable is straight-thru cable & won't work with DreamUp

                              Password

                              Hi,

I am a new member and also very new to this Dreambox. I have just bought a DM500c. When i go into Setup, it ask me for the password. So i check with the seller but he said that the Dreambox is being lock by the main supplier and they wouldn't know the password too.

Can i use this method to delete this lock?

mate there should be no password/pin number on a new box (your seller is talking through his ass ) if the box is locked and he wont help you send it back . there is a default password on most boxes such as 0000 ,but the box is never locked when you buy it .also you should be aware (if you live in the uk or ireland ) a dm500c is of little use to you unless you know some one that has a private cable server .

ive worked on many boxes that have never been locked by a default password ,a box is only locked once the owner changes the default password .
i love it when a dreambox comes together.
