The box loads up and displays the 4music channel perfectly, then any click on remote kills the video signal. That surely means the PCU is ok??

I've got a good 2nd box that flashed correctly, I tried the uploader on that box too to try and identify the problem and same again. Stuck on same sync screen before failing.

I must have a duff serial cable.

Thanks for your continued help on this. I'm completely baffled but will keep trying. I've tried my good box and bad box and two different serial cables (null modem rs232 female to female) with usb adapter (installed correctly) and also tried on an old PC (not sure what version it was, think XP, will have to check) on the bad box, and the same error on every effort:

          Open Serial Port..
Sync to serial port.. (a few minutes pause on this message)
Target not connect or target is error status!

Will try a few different machines to try the upgrade on.

          * def not a cable issue.
          * def not a pcu issue.
          * POSSIBLY A USB SERIAL ADAPTER ISSUE
          * POSSIBLY AN UNCOMPATIBLE PC ISSUE

Even Columbo would struggle to get to th bottom of this.

can you buy spare parts for the ex1100. If so from where and how much would a new roughly psu cost?

                  Finally solved it!!!

It was a piece of cr*p USB to Serial adapter. Even though it installed correctly it wasn't pinging anything.

Ditched the usb to serial cable and tried everything on an old machine with a serial port (and changed the settings in 'Device Manager' in control panel from 9600 to 115200) then matched 115200 on upgrade.exe and finally it pinged the next screen.

Big thanks alex for all of the help along the way.

there are two types of fault on the 1000 usb 1st is a bad flash 2nd is the optocoupler fails on the power supply unless you replace the optocoupler, changing caps or anything else will not fix the problem, in fact changing caps will just changes the fault which will come back and also a risk that you will kill of the processor as well and be left with a brick do not buy a completely new power supply just change the optocoupler....................
