I also am attracted to ex7000hd but likewise the things holding me back are a) the lack of hd channels on vm and b) My theory anyway is by the time there is a decent range of hd channels on vm nagra 3 will be launched possibly at the same time the hd channels start broadcasting, And the switch to nag3 could possibly render the ex7000 useless (Of course I might be wrong about that, But I'm not willing to take that risk)

I know how cliched this is going to sound mate... cough cough, But A friend of mine's son works for vm who has a eurovox also (loyal eh, haha) says that his son has heard bits and peices about the switch over but there's nothing concrete been mentioned to the employees yet. So if the employee's are non the wiser yet, I think we have another year at least before things go tits up. Nobody knows for sure though.

VM made an announcement in May 2008:

Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett told investors last week that he wanted "next generation" delivery and conditional access systems to be rolled out on its network in 2009 and 2010.

Well I said in an earlier post about how the things holding me back are the lack of hd channels on vm at the moment and I believe that when a wide range of hd channels becomes available on vm the new encryption method (nagra3) will be launched with them POSSIBLY rendering the boxes useless. So it's your choice, remember I might be wrong. Thats just my theory but I'm holding back until things change, When they do change I'll see how the land lies then.

Yeah mate, nice advice... So would you go for a EX5000 until then? I'm new on the scene and trying to decide what to do. Any idea on where to get them from with a HDD?

The link I sent you to with the ex7000hd sell everything you could possibly want but where you get a box from is your choice mate but thats the company I order mine from. If you're not bothered about recording then I would go for the cheapest option which would be the ex1000sl but if the recording feature is important to you the go for the ex5000 but bear in mind that when you're recording on the ex5000 you can't watch another channel whilst you record the program you want. Hope this helps you mate.

Cheers, that's very good advice. I'm only used to Sky at the moment. How reliable is this service? Is there anything obvious that I should know? I'm a complete beginner.
