    The flu jab ? should you get it?

    Flu season is approaching and sniffles, headaches and chills are all on the horizon. Do you take your chances or should you opt for a flu jab?

    And can you get one on the NHS?

    Am asthmatic so a get the letter every year and every year a phone them up to tell them i don't want it.!
    The year i did get the jab was the worst year a ever had with weird bugs and the flu, a felt like death warmed up for 6 months..
    My Mum took it for the first time a few years ago and as a result she got a terrible illness called polymyalgia rheumatica..

    The doctor said there wasn't a direct link to the flu jab but it was strange how she got it 1 week after getting the jab.
    My Dad got a second opinion and that doctor said it was very likely that the polymyalgia rheumatica was dormant but triggered by the jab..
    After watching what my Mum went through, a will never take a flu jab again.

    This is just my personal experience folks and am sure for some people the jab is a good thing..

      i had it for the first time last year because ive got copd ( chronic obstructive pulmary disease ) and asthma, wasnt bothered about having it but the docs plagued me with letters about it, so i thought ~~~~ it and had it, it didnt affect me at all, they give you a dose of the virus that is dead, they dont give you a live flu virus.

        I get leaflets all the time, people saying you should get it, adverts saying the same, then when i ring up my doc they tell me i don't need it.

            Never had it in my life, I rang my surgery last week and they told me they will be available from October about ?10.

            ~~~~ knows why the employed have to pay if the Govt wants to kill the bugs they should be free?.. (confused)
                Speaking as a health professional, I wouldn't force it upon anyone, it's complete pot luck whether you get a bad reaction from the jab,
                some people are fine, but last year a few of my work colleagues had it, (as health workers we are entitled to have it free of charge) and all those who had it, got the worse bout of flu they'd ever had,
                but yet I know others who've had no reaction at all.
                myself, I won't have it, I'll take my chances, but it's a personal choice.
                    I had it once as I also suffer from asthma, it didn't effect me. But I've not bothered since. I just couldn't see the point in getting them, I've never had the flu & it's unlikely that I'll be getting it anytime soon.
                    Don't believe the hype.
                    Most people who say they have or have had the flu.... Don't. It was just a cold. The flu jab is useless against a cold.
                      I get the flu jab every year and have been doing so for the last 20 years now. I have never had flu since and when some diseased dripping moaning git bitching about his aches comes into the office with it i am not going to catch it unlike many of my colleagues.
                      If you don't want a the jab then don't moan if you get flu and don't go spreading it around
                            they are free to anybody, unemployed or not, providing you are in an at risk group. or if your doc tells you to have one.
                            you only have to pay if the above does not include you.
                            which seens fair eough to me.
                            thing is its not about killing the bug, that will never happen.
                            its about reducing the effect flue can have on people "at risk".
                            both daughters and myself have had them for a while.
                            but my wife refuses.
                            none of us have suffered a bout of flu, since we started having the jab.
                            as my youngest is a "special need kid" (classic CDLS). I'm not willing to put here at risk.
                            ,as if i had any choice.
                            if the doc say she need it, and we dont have it, i have to explain if she goes down with a bout.
                            funnily enough, the same is not true, the other way round.
                              Rang our surgery this morning and ask if I can have an appointment this week, the receptionist told me to see nurse at 1.30pm I had a jab and ask her will this flue jab work now, she told me have you heard an advert on the TV about domestoes similar to that it will not kill all the unknown germs they will still attack you???she did not ask me for any money.
