Be cheaper to give the 1.7 million older people ?500 off their gas/electricity bills this winter as a direct payment to their suppliers and cut out the advisers and their paperwork. *shrug*

good shout mate, I wasn't concentrating much at all when I posted that up to be honest but your bang on mate, what a bunch of idiots eh, ?900 million up in smoke in other words really isn't it ?

I don't know about England, but all these things have already been in place in Scotland for years and years now with people getting free insulation etc and not even with as hard of conditions as what this English Government are stating here with this, I.E - you need to be over 75 years old or be a kid under 5 years old or you need to be very ill, in other words they are near enough saying we will pay all this money out for people to go round giving out advice (as you mentioned) and the people will be volunteers too !!!!!! , so that's a big fat 900 million they are basically just going to burn up in smoke instead of paying it directly to the needy just as you said, what a bunch of idiots man !!!!!! Just gets worse and worse man !!!

I saw it last night
One admitted buying goods she knew to be stolen. Have the police charged her yet?
The other had a deal whereby rent was overpaid because of their lodger and the landlord paid them the 'extra' back. That would be fraud or deception. Have the police changed them yet?
One of the others had 4 kids and her 'boyfriend' lived in his own house, probably never paid a penny towards the kids maintenance, but bought them things when it suited him. He probably can't afford to pay maintenance. Where's the CSA lately?

I doubt they realised but the narrator was taking the p**s out of them, but they're too stupid to even realise it. It's those sorts of people who give the rest a bad name and make it more difficult for those genuinely in sh*t. It's about time that the media did documentaries on those really in need instead of being IDS's mouthpiece. Mind you, that doesn't make 'news' does it.

I totally agree with you Saltire, they are scumbags because they have no intention of working and want everything for nothing.
But the write up really makes a fool of itself this statement "The couple get everything they need paid for in benefits ***8211; including their cable TV package. Taking into account the home paid for by housing benefit, their joint income on benefits is roughly the same as the minimum wage." So they try to make you angry by saying they get everything they need paid for "including their cable TV package"
Then they continue with a sentence that I would like to point out to everyone who says about them "They get more than me and I work at this that and the other" And that point is that even their Benefits are "Roughly the same as the minimum wage"
The Media try to enrage by quoting "So many Thousand Pounds per year" but those on lower incomes also have their income enhanced by benefits such as housing benefits, council tax benefits, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits etc all which hides the fact that many people do not receive a living wage, but still manages to turn those people against everyone on unemployment benefit who are basically receiving the same thing.

As said lots of times before - I work in social housing, I am a socialist and I think that the UnderOccupancy charges are a good thing!!!

You have people who are living in houses that are too big for them, and there are lots of people who need a bigger property for their families, and these people are being made to suffer as there is not enough larger properties.

I have heard it said many time ""this is my home!!""" ----- well guess what, it's not. It belongs to the state and is their to provide a service to the people who need it.

Anyone affected by the charge can continue to live in their property, but they have to pay for the underoccupancy subsidy. This then goes towards funding other things.

Thank fereeeck I locked my home fuel prices with british gas just 48 hours ago man, best decision I ever made man now that they yesterday said they will also put thier prices up by over 9 to 10%-ish , as if life isnt hard enough and now this garbage man, maybe you also still have time to speak to "your" fuel provider too and lock the price for at least a year, better to be safe than sorry, just thought I would say !
