Mate. I think there has been an effort at both clubs with varying success... if everyone is being totally honest. But because there are still those who sing the songs at games etc it doesn't mean that it always has to be that way. My take on it is that the clubs are not trying hard enough and maybe the will isn't there for the clubs to totally eradicate it? If the clubs wanted to totally stop it they could. Start handing out life bans on mass. If it's thousands who are singing it, pick 30 or 40 a time - it would soon get through to people.

Now I'm not saying the identity of the clubs should be lost, but the behaviour of some is not acceptable and not appealing in the 21st century and is an embarrassment to not only the clubs, but to the country.

Yup, people daren't speak out against their own fans in fear of retribution, and if you do you are classed as a grass. Personally I would never grass up a fellow fan but I'd make sure I didn't sit next to them next time.

I'm a Celtic fan and one thing that did sicken me was during the Hearts game, just after Neil Lennon was attacked by that clown, some of the Celtic fans lost their temper and retaliated by singing pro-IRA chants, I cringed hearing it. How did they think that would have helped the situation, it just embarrasses all decent Celtic fans and puts another nail is the reputation of Scottish football.

a cannot believe neil lennon has took all this mince , i think the trouble is he had the beating of rangers as a player & now as a manager and its gettin right up some peoples noses (lenny was never going to win the league after the SFA fiasco) and i think the guy is right some clubs should take a good look at themselves i wonder if they would play better if the celtic support stopped going to thier games ........

Sorry for going off thread, just wanted to point out that it seems Lennon is trying to do something about the singing. Which is the first boss at Celtic since Jock and I don't know if any boss of Rangers has every tried?

lennons got to stay if he goes then everything he,s been through this season will be for nothing obviously it will be hard for him but if he goes then the lying & cheating will go on & anybody that tries to speak up about it will be hounded out of scottish football too.......just a thought but there always seems to be more trouble when rangers get beaten kinda spooky eh......

Lenny has lived with this sh?te all his living days where can he go ? These scumbags that are threatening him will always be somewhere, running from them is near on impossible, is he to retire from football ? Imagine he leaves Celtic, gets another job managing, do you really believe the ~~~wits threatening him now will give up. What needs to happen is the people issuing the threats, bombs, bullets and so forth need to be caught and dealt with in as severe a manner as is possible by a court. I firmly believe those involved are a small minority, who are known to people that disagree with what they are doing, I believe these people need to act to bring them to justice.

As for Lenny, I hope and pray he stays and comes to no harm, if he goes the SPL is finished and the thugs win the day.

as mentioned before i am on neither side. i like the odd old firm game and cheer on rangers but thats most likely only because thats what friends and family follow.

I dont think lennon should leave and i am proud of the guy for putting up with what he has. If he leaves and goes to another club the trouble will just follow as stated above. he is been the bigger man and saying 'i will not let this destroy my career' and right on him.
