Burnley striker Steven Fletcher makes Wolves switch
Wolves have completed the signing of Scotland striker Steven Fletcher from Burnley for a fee of about ?6.5m.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract, with the option for a fifth year, after a season with the Clarets.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said the fee matched the amount spent on acquiring Kevin Doyle last summer.
"Although we continue to stick to the policy of not disclosing specific fees, I can confirm that this move makes Steven our record signing," he said.
"He was one of manager Mick McCarthy's main targets for the summer and - just like last season with Kevin Doyle - we were able to register our interest early and get the deal done."
Shrewsbury-born Fletcher's performances for Hibernian and Scotland youth sides had led to him being scouted by Real Madrid before his move to Burnley for ?3m last summer.
We believe Steven's abilities and qualities will perfectly complement Kevin, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and the other strikers already at the club
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey
He scored eight goals in 35 Premier League games for a Clarets side that suffered relegation straight back to the Championship.
"He is a Scottish international who has been heavily scouted by our management and scouting team and is an excellent player whom, despite his relatively young age, already boasts plenty of experience at the top level in both England and Scotland," said Moxey.
"He showed last season with Burnley, a team which were eventually relegated, that not only can he score goals in the Premier League but also achieve a consistent level of performance in his all-round game.
"We believe Steven's abilities and qualities will perfectly complement Kevin, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and the other strikers already at the club and create some fierce competition for places up front next season."
Fletcher moves in the opposite direction from Scotland team-mate Chris Iwelumo, who joined Burnley from Wolves for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday.
Clarets manager Brian Laws had insisted that the acquisition of Iwelumo was not linked with Fletcher's possible departure and that he wanted both players at Turf Moor.
However, Fletcher's future at the club was always likely to be shortlived once Burnley's relegation from England's top flight was confirmed.
Laws stressed that, should he lose the battle to retain the Scot, who scored 12 times in all for the club last season, he would seek another striker to replace him.
"We need power and strength because the Championship is a very physical league, hence Chris's arrival," he told Burnley's website.
"But I'm still looking for a goalscorer to complement my squad."
Meanwhile, Iwelumo insisted that he was excited about a return to the Championship, having ended the season on loan to Bristol City after failing to become a first-team regular with Wolves in the Premier League.
"It's going to be a good place to be and I think a very successful season," said the Coatbridge-born 31-year-old who started his career with St Mirren and had spells with Stoke City, Colchester United and Charlton Athletic before two years at Molineux.
"It is a club with ambition and there will be lots of chances created and goals scored.
"The Championship is a hard league to get out of, but the boys have the mentality to kick on and win a lot of games."IM SORRY but i will never have any sympathy for maggie thatcher .... the bitch

Striker Kevin Kyle rejects Greek deal to join Hearts
Kevin Kyle says he rejected a big-money offer from a club in Greece before signing a two-year contract with Hearts after leaving Kilmarnock.
The 28-year-old Scotland striker will be re-united with manager Jim Jefferies, who took him to Rugby Park.
"I had a lot of offers, including from Greece and Turkey, and the one from Greece was very lucrative," said Kyle.
"But, as soon as JJ phoned, I wanted to push the deal through and couldn't get it signed quickly enough."
Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee this week said that he could not compete with the wages being offered elsewhere to the tall target man, capped 10 times for Scotland.
But Kyle, who ends an 18-month stay at Rugby Park following the completion of his contract, said that personal matters also played a part in his decision.
"I discussed it with my family," he told Hearts' website. "But, to be fair, ever since JJ went to Hearts, I was hoping he would buy me - and, as soon as he phoned, I dropped everything.
He was in demand and I know other SPL clubs were after him
Hearts manager Jim Jefferies
"I am over the moon and my little boy was buzzing when I showed him around the stadium.
"I turned down a lot of money to come here, but I look forward to playing for Hearts."
Kyle, who began his career at Sunderland, made nine of his Scotland appearances as a Black Cats player between 2002-04.
His form under Jefferies and assistant Billy Brown after leaving Coventry City earned him a recall in November.
He appeared as a substitute in the 3-0 friendly defeat by Wales, George Burley's last match in charge of the national team, although he was left out of new coach Craig Levein's squad to face Czech Republic in March.
"I went back up the road to Kilmarnock and had a good season and a half under them, so it will be good to team up with them again," he said.
"Hopefully I can do what I did for them at Kilmarnock. I can't wait to get started.
"I got back into the Scotland squad last season and I will be trying to my best to bang on Craig Levein's door.
"If the international thing happens then great, but the priority is to do well with Hearts."
Jefferies, who rejoined Hearts for a second spell as manager in January, has money available to strengthen his squad, having released big earners Laryea Kingston, Jose Goncalves, Michael Stewart and Christian Nade.
He made a new striker a priority, with the Edinburgh side struggling for goals last season: winger Suso Santana was their top scorer in the league, finding the net six times.
Brentford and Charlton Athletic were options should Kyle have decided to return to English football, but the man who scored 10 goals last season has headed for Tynecastle.
Jefferies said: "He was in demand and I know other SPL clubs were after him and he could have got a lot more money going to Greece, so that just shows how much he wants to play for Hearts.
"I'm confident he will do well for us. He is a threat to defenders and, with the players we have who can deliver the ball from out wide, he will get great service.
"We brought Kevin back to Scotland and got him into the Scotland squad and know just what he can bring to the team and I know for a fact defenders don't like playing against him.
"It's not just the goals he will score, it's the chances he will create for others, which is another positive side to his game."
Kyle becomes Hearts' second summer signing, former Falkirk defender Darren Barr having agreed a move to Tynecastle for next season before Jefferies arrived.IM SORRY but i will never have any sympathy for maggie thatcher .... the bitch

West Ham sign German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger
German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger has become new West Ham manager Avram Grant's first recruit after signing a three-year deal with the Hammers.
The 28-year-old joins on a free transfer after his contract expired at Lazio, where he played only five times after moving from Stuttgart in January.
"Thomas is a top-quality player who I know the fans will love," said West Ham chairman David Sullivan.
Hitzlsperger had five years in England with Aston Villa from 2000 to 2005.
He had joined the Villans, then managed by John Gregory, as an 18-year-old from Bayern Munich.
It was at Villa Park where Hitzlsperger, capped 51 times for his country, earned the nickname 'The Hammer', owing to his rasping long-range efforts.
But despite establishing himself as a fans' favourite, he struggled for first-team football during boss David O'Leary's reign, and in August 2005 departed on a Bosman free transfer to Stuttgart, where he won the Bundesliga in the 2006-07 season and scored 20 goals in 125 appearances.
After he was stripped of the team's captaincy by manager Marcus Babbel at the end of 2009, Hitzlsperger left for his, ultimately, fruitless spell with Rome side Lazio.
And his miserable season was completed when he was omitted from his country's squad for the World Cup finals despite playing in all but one of the Germans' qualifiers.
Gold, meanwhile, has promised more arrivals at Upton Park during the summer.
"We are going to sign a mixture of exciting young talent as well as the very best senior pros who can add real strength to the squad like Thomas," he said.IM SORRY but i will never have any sympathy for maggie thatcher .... the bitch

Manchester City sign Hamburg's Jerome Boateng
Manchester City have signed German international defender Jerome Boateng from Hamburg for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal, will officially become a City player on 1 July.
Boateng was in Manchester on Saturday to confirm the details before he flies to South Africa to join the German national team for the World Cup.
"He is a young player who is already of a very high quality," City boss Roberto Mancini told the club's website.
"I think he can continue to improve at City. He can play a number of positions in defence, which is important.
"He has proved his ability in Germany and I think he can be a very important player for Manchester City in the Premier League."
Boateng started his career with Hertha Berlin before moving to Europa League semi-finalists Hamburg in 2007 and is the younger brother of Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.
The brothers could end up playing each other at the World Cup as the Pompey player has elected to represent Germany's Group D rivals Ghana.
And Mancini added: "It's good for Jerome to have agreed terms ahead of the World Cup, so he can now concentrate on playing for Germany.
"I will be very interested to see how he gets on in the tournament, before welcoming him back to meet his team-mates in pre-season."
Boateng follows current City players Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong in moving to Eastlands from Hamburg.IM SORRY but i will never have any sympathy for maggie thatcher .... the bitch
