Roy Hodgson has not helped his cause with some odd statements and those who have been ambivalent towards him from the start now want quick, decisive action taken to stop the rot spreading any further
But ask yourself this: is Hodgson to blame for everything that is currently wrong with Liverpool? Absolutely not. Would bringing in Kenny Dalglish suddenly catapult Liverpool from a basement battle to a title fight? Again, absolutely not.
Hodgson might appear to be a rabbit caught in the headlights right now but you have to accept he is working with a squad which is short of quality and is trying to go about his daily business while the club?s owners continue to be the worst type of nuisances.
Everything starts from the top and, as more demonstrations against Tom Hicks and George Gillett proved yesterday, Liverpool will remain in dire straits until they have been moved on ? one thing they can?t be blamed for, though, is the performance which was produced here.
Starting slowly and getting progressively worse, it defied belief that Christian Poulsen emerged for the second half, having plodded his way around in the opening period, never once threatening to make a significant contribution.
To think he is Javier Mascherano?s replacement. All summer everyone knew Mascherano would be leaving and it is now being shown up precisely what he did for the team; Poulsen is older and slower and can?t provide the infectious energy that Argentina?s captain did.
Yet it would be wrong to say he was the main reason for Liverpool remaining in the bottom three ? Glen Johnson, after all, was culpable for both the goals that led to the Reds? worst day at home in 18 years to continue his wretched form.
Supporters of a certain vintage can remember only too well the torrid start to the 1992-93 campaign when Liverpool slipped to the cusp of the relegation places following three consecutive September defeats against Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Wimbledon.
There were howls of disbelief on the Kop the day John Fashanu, Robbie Earle and company raced into a 2-0 lead ? they eventually won 3-2 ? but this, without doubt, surpassed the events of that dreaded day.
Quite frankly, the first 45 minutes were embarrassing. Bar a spirited opening to the second period, the rest wasn?t much better. Blackpool played with the swagger and confidence of a side that had nothing to fear while Liverpool, by contrast, were clueless and lacked direction on and off the field.
Trailing to a Charlie Adam penalty, needlessly given away by the completely out of sorts Johnson, the manner in which Liverpool fell further behind was truly alarming, as Blackpool effectively walked through their defence before Luke Varney smashed in from 10 yards.
All credit to Blackpool. Refusing to panic when Sotirios Kyrgiakos pulled one back, they mirrored the style of their enthusiastic manager and richly deserved the ovation they were given by The Kop at the final whistle but what will live longest in the memory is the booing which preceded it.
Anfield has turned on its managers before ? think back to 1994 when Graeme Souness saw Liverpool?s FA Cup dreams ended by Bristol City or 2004 when Charlton Athletic hammered the final nail into Gerard Houllier?s coffin ? but never so soon.
Hodgson has only had 14 games to try and steady the ship ? that, after all, is what Liverpool?s board wanted in the summer when they parted company with Rafa Benitez ? but the ship is listing so badly now it is almost capsizing.
If it is not to fully submerge, Hodgson absolutely needs certain players to recapture their sparkle ahead of the next Premier League game but, above all, he needs to oversee a win at Goodison Park to keep his head above water and Liverpool away from the abyss.
Then again, even if he does that, Liverpool will still be a million miles from the club which Holloway talked so fondly about. Can it get any lower? We will find out on October 17.

With debts of around 300million, the chances of October 17th bringing any short term solutions are very limited. What happened to young Liverpool players, Everton seem to have the monopoly on talent coming from merseyside. Untill that's addressed long term you just won't be able to buy your way out of this hole.

Is it not also time you considered a ground share with Everton? I'm sure most will disagree but it would save a lot of money and without chamipons league cash for the foreseeable future you badly need the revenue streams. How much further in debt can you afford to slide?

You can blame the owners (with plenty of reason) but quite clearly you've been buying mediocre squad fillers rather than top quality players for quite some time, Rafa must be to blame for this. I'd also like to know which players really developed under his time? You've spent far more than Arsenal for instance but you can see some progression there at least with their players.....they also make a profit

he's had 7 league games... if we had won today, we would have been 8th or 9th... would you be screaming for his head then?? sit back, relax, enjoy what we have had(quite a bit!!).. and have a bit of patience...

how can you relax and enjoy losing to the likes of blackpool and northhampton one may be a hick up but both of these and the alarm bells start ringing
you say we are only 7 league games ok Arsenal 1:1 draw not to bad but still the second best team on the day but were down to 10 men. Then we were taken apart by man city.Next we scraped a win against west brom at home 1.0 Then a 0:0 draw away to birmingham far enough a good point.then the mancs we were lvery lucky to get 2 goals i think they were the only shots we had on target.Then a draw against sunderland at home we should be beating team like this at home.And then losing at home to blackpool.I cant see many positives in any of them games so far

I agree with most of what you said but without knowing the full figures i don't think we have spent far more than Arsenal or indeed anyone else. I know Benitez spent money but he also sold players.

Part of the lies the owners would have you believe is that the money was,has been.is available for players when the simple fact is the club has made a profit over the last three years, there has been more money coming in than being spent on players.

there was an interview with Tom hicks i think it was and he pointed the finger at the Spirit of Shankly union and said they were scaremongering and said there is a substantial kitty available for the manager in the summer. This was towards the end of last season, so what happened to the kitty ? More lies by the Yanks i'm afraid.

Striker Milan Jovanovic has indicated that he would be prepared to leave Liverpool if he does not see more playing time this season (Liverpool 1/3 to beat Blackpool).
The Serbian international hit-man spent four seasons with Belgian side Standard Liege before moving to Anfield on a free transfer in the summer.
There were rumours at the start of the campaign that he was unhappy with the situation at Liverpool as he agreed to join the club while Rafael Benitez was in charge, with reports that the former Shakhtar Donetsk star would not honour his contract.
However, he moved quickly to dispel those reports and made it clear that he was committed to the Reds' cause (Liverpool 80/1 to win the Premier League).
The 29-year-old has yet to score a Premier League goal from a handful of appearances but he has netted in the Carling Cup against Northampton Town.
After initially being handed Premier League starts by Roy Hodgson he has been benched for the past two matches, and a lack of playing time is clearly starting to irk the Serb, who believes he is in good enough form to be given a chance to show what he can do on a regular basis.
"I am starting to find the time dragging on," he told the Sun.
"I'm a fighter but if things do not sort themselves out I will change club - even though it is too soon to think about it yet.
