The only chance of extra income is the European competitions, given that they can't compete in an inflated market for quality players both find it difficult in this area too. The EPL is a far superior league to SPL, of that there is no question, but it too is a two horse race almost every year in that the two leagues are similar.
i agree with most of this and that its funds thats stops you from competing but most funds in the EPL are from TV revenue

and the only reason the epl blows the scottish league out of the water is that nobody apart from in scotland and maybe ireland wants to watch it

and not being funny here just honest to most people watching scotttish PL football is a bit like watching blue square premier league it only appeals to the fans of the clubs who watch it

celtic and rangers are like 2 sharks in a goldfish bowl and the only way they will be able to compete is either a european superleague or joining the EPL i cant see them joining the EPL unless they start in the non league as its not fair on the other clubs

and i cant see them making a superleague either we already have one the CL and even if they did make a superleague would celtic or rangers get in,i somehow dont think so after there recent european records there are probably easy already 20 teams ranked higher

thered, your right neither Celtic or Rangers in thier current state would get into or compete in either league if they were available to them, but they are two massive clubs with few equals when it comes to support, given the opportunity to compete in say a super league (the EPL will never happen) both clubs would attract investment and therefore be capable of competing for better quality players, add to that the lure of playing against the best in Europe attracting better players would be no problem at all. But I agree with you I can't see it happen either, and so must suffer the painful downward spiral of the club I have supported for many's a long year

yeh i think you would attract investment and make money but its getting that first step on the ladder that going to be hard, its a shame and a sad state for football but if something doesnt happen soon its going to get harder and harder as the other teams in other leagues are only going to get further away

its all a vicious circle involving money in which the only way its going to get better is with a leg up off someone in power i wonder what it would do tho to scottish football if you both did leave

One can only wonder at the mentality of someone who holds so much animosity towards people he has never met, strange ! Oh well, it takes all sorts to make a world unfortunately.
Me too. I've got a lot of time for both United & Liverpool, great clubs. I sat on the Kop when we put them out of Europe the last time we played them and the number of Pool fans that came up to us to wishes all the best was amazing. Not a hint of trouble at all, great supporters. Same at Parkhead when we've played Liverpool.. fans in same pubs, getting on, swapping scarfs, great! But I tell ya, Lfc4life is putting me right off Liverpool.

I'm with you, I don't think he goes to Anfield, sounds an armchair fan to me.

Agree with most you've said on this thread. I think the only way the Celtic & Rangers will make a European League is if the powers that be will go for world wide support as well as standing. The two Scottish clubs standing or stock at present in Europe is pretty low, but they both have millions of supporters world wide. I know there was some sort of survey a few yrs ago saying that Celtic had between 11-13 million supporters (not just here & Ireland mate) - don't ask me how this figure was reached and Rangers also have millions of supporters.

I could see the powers that be going for Celtic & Rangers rather than the Lyons of this world - just because of world wide interest.

Btw best of luck in the league. "We hate Chelsea more than you!"

thanks i do hope we sneak it

but with regards to say a superleague i dont dispute for a second that you are by far both bigger clubs than the likes of lyon but in terms of say ranking for european football over the last few years i think they will be well ahead of both due to there superior CL record

I don't want to make this into a Celtic v Liverpool thing (like LFC4life would like it to be), but didn't Liverpool get something like 10,000 for a game against Wolves in the cup one night not that many yrs ago? Boomer you'll correct me if I'm wrong. & what was Rangers crowd at home in the cup to Hamilton this season??

This season will be our worst average attendence in some yrs, but will it still be higher than Liverpool's, who play in 'THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD EVER!' & we all know & agree the SPL is sh*te.
how many does parkhead hold??? and anfield??
tonight was our lowest for a few years in the league, 37,000,probably due to transport probs... cant recall the wolves cup game, but will check up....

Aye I know about the stadia sizes, but that aint Celtics fault you have a smaller ground. Also with all the talk about the EPL, If Celtic & Rangers for that played in the EPL they would both be extending there grounds. Don't want turn this into an us v you again - what Lfc4life wants.

For Celtic to have 50,000 season ticket holders going into this season with a manager most didn't want, playing in a sh*te league and not being in Champs league is not bad I think?

I'm pretty sure the game was wolves, but also think you got lower than 10,000 against a lower division team? Aint saying anything about your support, just saying that we all have times when the crowds are not what they should be.

defo not wolves, in fact our record att. was against wolves 61,000. and there record att. was against us.. 61,000, only about 200 difference between the 2. thats just a btw, btw..
think it was bradford or brentford in l.cup.. will check later..
not comparing the 2 clubs, do that enough with some other team down the A580!!
remember in the 80's when we won everything, some of our gates were quite low for the lesser teams, and our season average was normally a bit below capacity. but this was before all-seaters and the increase in glory hunters...
