you should already have a usbloadergx channel on the main menu screen if you start that and enter the loaders menu you can auto update the loader to the newest version available.
your wii should now be able to play backups.
then post again for cios update.
Each USB Loader has different features and layouts try all 3 so you can decided which one is the best for your needs. In my opinion USB Loader GX is the best as it loads more problem games and more there are more cracks for this one.
After you've added all 3 channels to the Wii menu and tried them all out you can remove any channel you don't want in the Wii Channels options just erase them.
Each USB Loader has its own updater in settings or About.
I do have usbloadergx on the main menu. When I press start it says waiting for your slow usb device and counts to 30 then states
no usb device found do you want to retry for 30 seconds?
and I have the options cios249 or cios222 or back to main menu.
What should I do now?
At the moment I have no usb device plugged in. I do have a 1gb USB stick should I format to fat 32 and use this?

you will not a fit a wii game on a 1gb usb stick (except paper mario) and usb loader gx will not start unless you have a usb device plugged in as it says.
What do you want to do now???? if you want to play backups from a hard drive you will need to get hold of an external hard drive preferably with it's own power cable and not usb powered. I think one of the car racing games also drops below 1gb once converted to wbfs but I can 't remember which one

How many threads have you read on here CRITCHK?
As CK and myself are saying you won't get any games on a 1GB USB stick. Depending on what you using to add a game to the stick the original file size is about 4.5GB so it won't go on a 1GB stick. If you use WBFS Manager then that compressed of remove unecessary parts of the file so it will be a fraction of that size.
Get yourself a compatible mains powered external USB HDD.
