Ok got my 500gb usb drive connected. The Wii reconises it OK. How do I update the gx loader? Am I ready now to start backing up games to this HDD yet? I am going to use Mario Kart as a test. Do I back it up from my original disk or download the rom?

CK's video has just explained how to update GX to a newer version if avaliable. Now these inbuilt updates only update the files in the apps\usbloader_gx folder thats all.

To add an original game disc to your HDD insert the disc and click the + button on the bottom left and follow the screen prompts.

All the USB Loader update (WiiFlow you click on the About button bottom left) in the same way.

I have the original copy of Mario Kart in my Wii and load gx loader press + to install and select and nothing happens it just goes back to the same screen.

Also re GX Loader update it just says checking for updates then resets to dos type of screen with lots of test starting with exception occured then goes back to main wii menu.

Please help what am I doing wrong!

Well I don't know whats wrong with your system as you've tried loads of different options to try and get this working.

I would try USB Loader GX Easy installer (for Windows) the second one in the list. Its an exe that you run from Windows with the SD plugged in so it can write files to it.

First I would delete to apps\usbloader_gx folder and delete the SD:\config folder thats where it stores all the game pictures and settings.

It doesn't matter which version is installed because you can do an update in the USB Loader GX settings which will update to 2.3. After the update close USB Loader GX then start it up again and reload all your game pictures, you can click on Credits in the settings to see which version you're currently running.

I haven't really been following this thread but you have said the wii recognizes the hdd. How do you know this, also, if you have formatted the hdd to fat 32 and are running old version of gx (you say it didn't update) it may not read the drive as I think the older versions only read wbfs. The wii needs to be connected to the internet to use the update function in gx.

You do have another option which is to extract this file onto a blank sd card Digital Kaos - Downloads - Usbloader gx 2.3 r1128 and d2x v7 with mmm 13.4 it contains all the latest d2x cios and usbloader gx I have also put instructions in the file...If you don't have ios 236 then reload to ios 249 where it says reload to ios236

                  Hi guys,

I bought a wii this week, and I've been reading alot about softmodding my wii, I'm convinced I've done everything the right way, but I'm having a problem:

I'm unable to "detect" my USB hard drive. It's listed as compatible (Iomega 500GB) and I've tryed both in WBFS and Fat32. I'm moving the game to the HD with wifi backup manager.

The HD as 3 partitions. The two first ones are NTFS and I have My stuff there, I created a 32gb partition (due to fat 32 size limit) at the end of the HD. Can this be the problem? Does the HD as to be exclusive to wii?

                  Help needed, thanks.

I believe the first partition has to have the Wii games on it.

32GB isn't going to be big enough as you will only get 6 games on it.

If you can't partition your 500GB drive to at least 150GB for the Wii games then consider getting a bigger mains powered drive. My first drive was 120GB which held 65 games I've since bought 1TB FreeAgent? GoFlex? Desk External Hard Drive which is formatted WBFS and its totally for the Wii.

Gx will read games from any position of partition in wbfs, ntfs or fat 32

                          Ok, I did it.

Ck-ok, used the ease us partition, same result, usb drive error.

Very angry with my wii, decided to format memory. Letterbombed again, installed ios236m priiloader 0.7, and finnally Usbloader gx 2.3 r1128 and d2x v7 with mmm for installation. Tryed it, usb error again.

Well, for some reason I decided to try connect the HD at the lower usb port. WTF, it worked???????

Everything is fine now, is this suppost to be normal?

All this trouble, a entire day lost, and all I had to do was connect de USB HD on to lower USB port of my wii???

P.S.: Tryed also with a game on a usb pen and it also works on the lower usb port, not on the higher.

Ok, if this is normal, I didn't have a clue about it, and didn't saw it mentioned on any of the tutorials.

I guess my problem is solved, thans for the support guys.

Yes thats the position for a an external drive the one nearest the edge Port 0.

This has been mensioned a few times on here but you obviously followed a different tutorial.

If you try and run WiiFlow without a drive plugged in it shows you which port it should be in.
