    Hi Keith,
thank you for your quick reply on my previous post, it is much appreciated.
    We're not quite there yet...
I ran Modmii which showed all required wads are in place.
I added the 7 wads from "d2x v8 Final WAD pack.zip" but no luck.
Recap: USBLoader GX on my friend's Wii recognizes my harddisk, but not her harddisk. However my Wii recognizes both disks just fine. Both are 4.3E

I compared syscheck.csv from both Wiis and found that on the "bad" Wii there are 2 _extra_ IOS installed
    - IOS3 (rev 65280): Stub
    - IOS254 (rev 65281): BootMii
I tried removing them but that didn't work.
    Any suggestions?

here is the SysCheck of the Wii that does not recognize this USB disk (works fine with another disk; both are NTFS)

Well I can't see anything wrong with that sysCheck its exactly the same as mine. The later Wii's do have IOS3 so thats nothing to worry about and IOS254 is normal.

Are you sure that sysCheck is exactly the same as your friends, can you post that one?

      Mine sysCheck.

DO NOT REMOVE ANY IOS's as there is a chance you could brick the Wii if you get things wrong.

Its strange USB Loader GX on your friend's Wii recognizes your harddisk, but not her harddisk. However your Wii recognizes both disks just fine.

        Ok, here we go
(it's gone be a long post)
Note that "the bad" now also has the 7wads of "d2x-v8final"
Also, "the good" has boot2 v5
while "the bad" has boot2 v4
        Two questions:
        1. do you know how can I change the "boot2" to v5?
        2. is usbloaderGX 3.0 r1180 201205121007 the recommended (latest?) version?

Something more on the Disk: it is an USB3, 2.5", Lacie of 1TB

So can you see whats missing in the bad one compared with yours from IOS245 down?

First install all 7 wads in d2x v8 Final wad pack and see if it will read both drives.

Also IOS254 (rev 65281): BootMii is missing which you said you deleted bad boy. See if you can access BootMii when you exit Homebrew but you will need the [bootmii] folder with the 3 files in it. If BootMii can't be access then you going to have trouble if you need to restore the NAND. If you don't have the [bootmii] folder you can make a new one with ModMii.

You can make a new IOS254-64-65280.wad if you download NUS Downloader and run it from Windows. Run it put a tick in Pack wad. Click on Database/IOS scroll down to 254 its the one at the bottom then right and select lastest version. The click Start NUS Download!. Copy the text in the box IOS254-64-[v].wad then click on Save As and paste it back in then click on Start NUS Download! again that will save IOS254-64-65280.wad in the app folder. Add that wad to the SD card wad folder and install is with MMM.

If you want to read what each IOS does click on IOS History in Usage. It doesn't actually mension BootMii so I'm not sure why its shown in the sysCheck.

Oh another little update for you seeing as both of your are on 4.3. If you click on the Shopping channel it will say you need to do a system update. You should have set PriiLoader to block online and disc updates. With NUS Downloader you can make a New Shopping Channel, RVL-Shopping-21.wad which you install with MMM.

            Keith,
I will be traveling now for the rest of the week.... will let you know the outcome after next WE..
This is really great info. Thank you so much
I just noticed that I have mixed-up the Syschecks of the good and the bad one. It is the _BAD_ wii that has all 7 d2x v8 Final wad pack installed, not the "good" one. That is what puzzles me. So the Final wad pack is not the solution. What about the Boot2 V4/V5?

If you mixed the sysChecks up I just quoted the one with the mising d2x v8 Final wad pack that needs fixing. USB Loaders generally use IOS249 or IOS250 for some games but you can select the lower numbers for games as well, so you may not have noticed those were missing until you tried to use them.

I'm not sure when they changed Boot2 from v4 to v5 but if you look at the Drive date you will have some idea when the Wii was made.

My brand new Wii is having the same issue. Everything appears to have installed correctly for the softmod, but it will not recognize my usb hard drive which works fine on an older wii. I will try to post a system dump as earlier posters have done. thanks!!

                      Hi Keith,
I'm back in the country. Good catch on the missing IOS254 (BootMii). As this is must-have safety item, I tried to reinstall it following your procedure using NUSD. Unfortunately IOS254 on NUSD is a stub. (It installed successfully, but of course it doesn't work.) I also tried different versions of this IOS254, but these are all stubs. Any other tips on this?
                      thanks ! :-)
Then there is the remaining issue of the disk which is not recognized. The "bad" wii (with a newer disk built date and with boot2v5 ) actually has more IOS installed than the good one. So... I've ran out of options here...

I don't know why IOS254 is sub when it was IOS254 (rev 65281): BootMii before?

There is nothing wrong with that new sysCheck so its either the drive or how your adding the games to it thats at fault.

Solved: "harddisk not recognized by USB loader 3.0"

I installed the latest d2x custom IO Stream (cIOS): d2x-v10-beta53-alt.zip from

You can download the latest revision here http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/downloads/list
(do not take the vWII versions, these do not work on a real Wii)

Installation instructions can be found at: http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/wiki/How_To_Install

I installed it in IO Slot 249 base 56

Make sure you have a "matching" USB loader. With matching I mean that it must be using the same IOS. I had one IOS 222 and that didn't work with this cIOS

                            Find and install: USBLoader_GX_V3_0_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip

                            enjoy
