Wii softmod for Dummies(without zelda)

Is there a maximum size of HD u can attach to the Wii or is it only limited to a usb stick & not an external HD connected by a usb cable ? ...... pardon my ignorance but I am still trying to get up to speed with all the things that can & can't b done with the Wii.

Thanks for the guide, modded my 4.2 and it seemed perfect.
Today I tried a copy of Guitar Heroes Beatles and it just black-screens, I even burnt another copy to make sure it wasn't the disk.
I'm guessing as this is a newer game than the ones I tried previously I may need to change something?
I followed the guide to the end, so I also removed all the files form the SD card, so simple instructions please

dont know what your using to load game,but when you start loader you need to select ios 223 or 222.give that a try.
